EMBALMER is a four-piece Death Metal act from Cleveland, Ohio.  They describe themselves as "gore drenched sickness from the disease infested southern shores of Lake Erie." As far as I can tell, this is the first full-length album on an independent label, and contains eight tracks.  The opening track, "There Was Blood Everywhere", borders on pure Grindcore, with deep, short vocal growls and alternating screams, with a fast paced, grinding instrumental section, and blast beat drumming. The focus here is on the extreme side of the genre, with barely discernable lyrics and song structure.

"The Necro-Filling Cabinet", is somewhat more scary, and varied at times, but the over-riding focus is still on as extreme Death Metal as possible. The guitars are drop-tuned for even more of a deep basement type feel. The blood-curling screams add to the effect. By contrast, "Blood Sucking Freaks", begins with a slow grind, and an evil sounding riff, with harmonic lead breaks, before settling back into the blast beat approach. "May the Wounds Bleed Forever", moves a little slower and with a bit more purpose, settling into a fairly recognizable song structure. "Rotten Body Fluids" is back to the Grindcore. It is just relentless in its delivery, as deep, dark and void of melody as can possibly be. "Bone Box" begins with a slower grind, a decent into Hades where your feet dangle over the fire, inch by agonizing inch. But fairly soon, it picks back up into a fast blast beats, and then alternates from there. It's akin to some flesh eating parasites ripping your body apart from the inside. The guitar solo section is particularly eerie. "Morbid Confessions" is more of the same. Closing the album is "The Cellar." The build-up of the opening creates a temporary suspense as it sounds like a chainsaw revving up. Overall, I find this to be as extreme as the genre can be. It is stripped down, no holds barred Death and Grindcore, exactly as the band describes it.
