Accompanied by TAAKE leader Hoest on the bass, DEATHCULT, despite the clichéd title" Cult of The Goat", present an evolution from their debut album: still in the old style black metal neighborhood, they stop imitating their forefathers, giving us a mature proof and blend between Norwegian school (TAAKE and KAMPFAR, the latter for their epic solemnity) and a more traditional metal dark side. This gives more than a side to the whole work, keeping it layered and enhancing interest and pleasantness for all the album duration.

DEATHCULT can properly blend frozen black riffing to more smartly laid melodies with a dark hint underlying: we also find some kind of a rock core in the songwriting and in the melodies, keeping the band away from a sterile style exercise made of just speed based riffs and drum spurts.

 "Climax of the Unclean" opens the album with a simple guitar line, growing into a fine black metal crossover between the styles of the artists' heritage and projects. They can also alternate middle paced rhythm and groovy parts to fast bursts, like in "Ascension Rite": this gives their music a deeper layering and texturing.  Standing out we can find "Devilgoat" and "Man versus Beast" where DEATHCULT reach their highest peaks in this release.

Although not revolutionary nor perfect, "Cult of Goat" certainly stands out among fellow releases, showing that black metal with something more than just death and Satan is possible in this scene, with this DEATHCULT release made real by smart songwriting and certain taste to reach a deeper bedrock.
