Though it was my first time ever to have the chance to listen to a metal band from Iceland, I got really impressed by the monstrous atmosphere that the Black Metal band CARPE NOCTEM created in the debut full-length album "In Terra Profugus", and though the band has been formed in 2005, the members had the ability and the inspiration to write and record an album that has a very ancient sound. These five guys have squeezed their influences and inspiration together to form an antique sound, where the raw chaotic moments are staining the lunatic Black Metal riffs in a way that can easily blind your ears.
"In Terra Profugus" is a very detrimental release, and it hasn't been created for those fragile hearts who only enjoys the melodic and the Symphonic Black Metal shreds, but if you're a fan of the ancient DARKTHRONE and a worshipper of the Norwegian act MAYHEM, then this album will be a piece of rotten meat to have on your musical lunch. With rapid stepping drumming and fast picking solos the band gives this record a deep strength and darkness, and the atmospheric atmosphere and clean guitar effects made the whole surroundings epic behind the walls of devilish darkened crispy vocals. Code666 Records have released a lot of surprising extreme Metal releases in the last few years, but this band is really spectacular, because this record is destroying the modern sound of the extreme metal bands and resurrect the original sound of the 90s Black Metal era, the sound that our ears are begging to hear all the time.
Your journey with this album will start with an intelligent-aged artwork that describes the apocalyptic vision of the members perfectly, and actually this artwork was the first thing to catch my attention in this debut album. A lot of materials have been created here, the demonic spells and the devilish whispers and the wicked clean guitar sections that made the whole atmosphere abyssal as hell, especially in the tracks "Odium Somniferum" and "VITRIOL". All the five tracks in this record have the same insane sound and soundscaping touches, a combination of extreme guitar riffs and hellhammering drums performance, the whole musical structural sounds original and the production has really helped to reflect all the instruments in front of the speakers but the sound of the bass sounds buried deeper and deeper.
This band is really promising and this debut album is really apocalyptic, so if you're a fan of the classic Norwegian and Swedish Black Metal, then you have to get your copy of this album now and start taking these tracks like drugs. The chaotic blood that ran in the veins of the classic Black Metal era is still streaming here, but now its darker, faster and stronger than ever, enjoy the sound of the end of the world.
