WHAT THE FUCK??? WHAT THE FUCK??? WHAT THE FUCK??? Did someone drop something in my coffee or does the new Blind Guardian song suck big time? Fly? yeah I wanna fly away from this EP. Everybody knows that Guardian left for good behind their look mom how fast I can play days and adopted look mom I am trying to become the Queen of Power Metal style (that's why their last album was boring - oh come on, accept the fact) but this new song definitely is the most confused / less Metal that this German band has ever spawned.
Do you hear any rhythm guitars somewhere? All I hear is Hansi trying to sound like Tate, nah that isn't going to work, plus some gay solo / leads here and there. I won't make any comments about the keyboards...
On the other hand, the acoustic version of Skalds And Shadows is a candy treat for my ears. Acoustic / folk / medieval like Past And Future Secret and The Bard's Song. Magnificent piece of work. Come on B.G., stick to this kind of music and get rid of any modern touches in your music. You belong to the old school. Simply excellent.
In the end we have the cover of In A Gadda Da Vida (hmmm, I think I've heard this song covered by another 2.569.477 Metal bands). But this version must be the suckiest of them all (does such a word exist?). Modern (again) bullshit that makes me want to break my expensive stereo. And why does this one have a slightly different production than the other two tracks?
If this was a full length and Skalds... was absent, I would have given it a very round 0 for a score. I pray to the gods of thunder, wind and rain that the full length of the Guardians will be much much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much better.
