Battle Dagorath - Ancient Wraith album cover

BATTLE DAGORATH...the Norwegiest Californians ever existed. Their label, Cold Dimensions refers to their 2nd album - "Ancient Wraith" as "freezing". Well...they are 100% right. This is one of the "freeziest" black metal albums ever created by a non Scandinavian band.

It all starts with the "Spirits Of Winter Darkness".An intro darkened with gusting winds. The album's 6 long tracks (8 to 16 minute songs) contain all the elements visualised in the artwork...Cold, dark, Isolated, almost cursed moods and feelings. Low choiry synth pads, non stoping blastbeats through out the whole songs. Vocals limited in time, only when they have something to say. And they have to say a lot. Screams of despair and words that speak the demonic interlingua everybody understands (if they are into raw-old school depressive-suicidal mood Black metal).

The conclusion of this furious dialog with the gods of abandonement and misery is located in the 6th part - "Ancient Spectre Of Oblivion". A non ending agonised torture of black figures laughing at your suffering as you slowly freeze... to death.
