From their EPK, "Gaslighter" is a kind of diary that gathered intimate and unshared thoughts about the pandemic. The idea that a solution of all the dislocations in the world is just nearby, but at the same time beyond attainment, shines through the whole album." The album contains ten songs.

"Infancy (Intro)" is the short into leading to the title track. Melodies smack you in the face out of the dates, together with harsh vocals. It's an interesting combination. Bass guitar thumps away under the bed of rhythms that are both aggressive and harmonious. "Flabbergast" features super-tight rhythms under harsh vocals and a somber melody line. The melodies are smooth and grand and really but up against the vocals. "Anthia" begins with clean guitars and some symphonic elements. From there, an aggressive riff moves forward with more harsh vocals. The band flexes their muscles here in a nice display of musicianship. The drummer is outstanding.

"The Origin of Species" begins with a set of strong melodies intermingling with an aggressive set of rhythms. The melodies are well-timed and the transitions in and out of these passages are seamless. "Chairborne" is another song with bright melodies that ride above the heavy rhythms seemingly without help...meaning that they could stand very well on their own. But some of the songs at this point sound pretty close to one another. Varying the length, and/or pace of the songs would help. "Samedi" opens with thick bass guitar notes dancing under the vocals. Melodies poke their head out every now and again, but retreat before they are sliced off. The piano and leads in this song really stand out. "Procrastination" features a smoother set of rhythms and a slower pace to allow the harmony to sink it. It's also the first song with clean vocals.

"Exaltation" features many aggressive and heavy rhythms along with sharp harsh vocals. The melodies are just a bit more subdued here, and you have to work to uncover them. "Prayer" closes the album. It's an intriguing mix of clean female vocals, sung with emotion, and deep death vocals. But of course, the melodies are still there. I feel like a broken record when I talk about the structure of these songs, and perhaps this is a cue that too many of them sound similar. Overall, many of the songs are too short however to really let the melodies develop, but I get the sense that this was not the band's intention. Indeed, they leave them out there just enough to tease your senses but never fully committing to them. Their musicianship is nearly impeccable, however. This album was definitely interesting enough to make me a fan, and curious as to what the band might have up their sleeve next.
