I remember doing an interview with Andromeda back in 2003 and if I recall correctly this was the most boring interview I have done in my life. Oh well... no love lost. Massacre Records is not known for their progressive metal releases (right now I don't recall another prog act in their repertoire but I could be wrong) but this one is really a good one!
When I first heard the band's previous release II = I (this stands for two is one or two becomes one and not two equals one, I learned that first hand) I was not impressed (if not disappointed).  After reading about these guys I was expecting something really good, if not extraordinary. Sadly that didn't happen back then. Well it took them three years to release a new album but at least Chimera stands up to the standards I was looking for in their music back then.
In general terms this is progressive music. But in this album progressive doesn't stand for complicated. Without being less technical or impressive melody is the key element in Chimera. The band flirts with melodies on a higher level making even melodic rock bands blush in shame at certain occasions. Their music is quite heavy and the bold productions helps to the maximum but what sticks in mind for good are the catchy refrains and the exceptional voice of David Fremberg.
Of course don't expect to listen a progressive metal album without the usual cliches of the genre - well at least these guys have overcome the trend of endless blithering (no endless solo parts in this one thank you god). The artwork and the album title bring in mind melodic death metal act from Sweden right? Well, apart the death the previous sentence is correct. Some of the most cool songs in here are: Periscope, In The End, The Cage In Me.
