Without a Facebook page, and hailing from parts unknown, Encyclopaedia Metallum was my only source of information about the band. I suppose a lot of Black Metal bands like to remain anonymous. The band named translates from Latin to Gothic and means "end." Their lyrics are also done in the Gothic style as well. After a few demo releases, "Servants of the Cold Night" is the debut full-length, and contains seven tracks.

"Menin daur" is a brief, mood-setting instrumental, with bells, strings and a whistling that sounds sinister. Winds begin to pick up in speed, chilling you to the bone. "Skalkos blindonds nachts" goes chaotic from the start. It's two-and-a-half minutes of utter madness with barely something to hold on to or a structure to name, and rough production. "Hailag leik" is just a bit slower and there is structure here. But the screams never let up. It's like a living nightmare or walking the pits of hell for eternity. "Wintrus hailagaizos aggwibos" has wall upon a wall of sound from the constant beating of the drums and mesmerizing vocal parts. The entirety of the song is done exactly the same. There are also some harrowing effects in here. Near the end, most of the sound drops, except for these droning keyboard notes.

"Andilausa arua azgons" has some more semblance of order. The guitars and drums still maintain a constant presence but you feel like the song has purpose. It's old school Black Metal for sure however. "Skauns daubus" features solemn and despondent strings, and is the first real break we have from the madness of the earlier tracks. "The Black Oath" closes the album. The main riff comes chugging in over steady drums. It's the longest song on the album, at over seven minutes in length. Anguished screams come over top the main riff. Just after the halfway mark, the sound drops, and cold winds can be heard, and it slowly fades away.

Besides a few interesting elements, this is straightforward, old school Black Metal. It begs the question...why not try to be something new and different, and not copy what has already been done 1000 times before. I see this appealing to Black Metal dads who are stuck in the early 1990's but it doesn't have much to offer to today's Metal audience.
