Formless

Do you remember this band? Some of you may have forgotten them since they haven't released a full-length album for seven whole years! However, fans of Prog Metal and different stuff will surely have heard of them. AGHORA is (even though I don't know every single band in Season Of Mist's roster) probably the only non Black/Death/Thrash/Industrial band in Season Of Mist. Probably the label's staff knew some things better when they signed them.
AGHORA is not only known as Santiago Dobles' brainchild, but the band is also known for the participation of the high and mighty Sean Reinert. Don't tell me you don't know this guy! He has played in bands like DEATH, CYNIC, GORDIAN KNOT and many more. This guy was born to play Prog stuff!
Anyway, back to Formless now. First of all, I would like to say that they fell into the DREAM THEATER trap. The left everything behind to fully concentrate on technique. That's why the album ends up being tiring from a moment and then. The loss of bassist Sean Malone (CYNIC, OSI, GORDIAN KNOT) was one of the reasons I had a negative feeing about this album, along with some other reasons like the time that passed until they released it. They spent six years to release it and it had to be something great. The atmosphere in this album is really cold and only Reinert's playing seems to offer something, giving an organic tone to the tracks. I am sorry but this album doesn't seem formless to me, it just seems senseless.
Diana's voice is also one more negative thing in my humble opinion. Not only I don't like her vocals, but she also seems like she sings without any sign of a warm feeling. Her vocals sound cold and empty. In fact, the whole album sounds really empty. Only 2-3 good riffs here and there, but it is obvious that they can't save the day for AGHORA.
I am sorry but 6 years should make them come back with something at least good, not to say great. Formless was a complete disappointment for me and I think for the most of the band's fans. I said what I had to say. Sorry but the only thing that this album deserves is a...
