BIOGRAPHY:
Wings of Dahak was founded in 2013 by Dave Tillery, best known as the bassist for Texas death metal legends Embalmed and guitarist for Gruesome Fate. The band was created to serve as an outlet for Tillery's songwriting endeavors that did not fall within the bounds of the old school death metal formulas employed by his other bands. Influenced by all genres of extreme metal and fueled by a desire to share stories of mythological doom and destruction brought forth by the corruption of man, Tillery began writing and releasing demos under the Wings of Dahak name in 2013.
After working with several other musicians over the next few years, Tillery called upon an old friend from his days as band mate with Truncator, drum extraordinaire Matt Thompson, who currently plays drums for metal icon, King Diamond. Thompson instantly clicked with Tillery's writing style and brought the music to a new level of explosive destruction.
Since Tillery's vision for Wings of Dahak relies heavily on melodious and skull-bending lead guitar to accompany the blackened death and doom chaos, there was only one real target to employ for the writing of the debut album; Cody Daniels. Daniels is best known for his work as founder and frontman for the blackened, progressive, deathly-sludge-laden metal band, Giant of the Mountain. Daniels jumped at the opportunity to explore the cavernous realms of Tillery's songs and wrote twisted, exquisite solos that take a full grasp of the listener's brain with claws that refuse to release.
These were the pieces that were needed to take Wings of Dahak to the level that Tillery envisioned when the first song, Search for Utukku was written back in 2013. With the components in place, Tillery took Wings of Dahak to the engineering hands he trusted most, Irving Lopez of Imperial Mind Engineering, who in turn, took the Wings of Dahak sound to a place that couldn't even be imagined.
Wings of Dahak was named after a great dragon of lore, Azhi-Dahaka, who goes by many other names and forms. The most distinctive form is the great three-headed dragon that currently resides bound by unearthly chains under a mountain on earth, waiting for the stench of corrupted man to achieve a level strong enough to break his chains. Have faith and trust that the time is near.
Dahak is a powerful Druj created by the Spirit of Destruction, a three headed dragon which brought ruin to earth. Dahak, whose wings blot out the sky, changed form and took over the earthly throne. He soon brought misery, hunger, thirst, old age and death, mourning and lamentation, excessive heat and cold, and intermingling of demons and men.
The music by Wings of Dahak was composed and created with this spirit in heart and mind.
