The Day Of Massacre
Obduktion

"The Day Of Massacre is a meticulously crafted promo cd by the Greek deathsters Obduktion.
It consists of two really vicious death metal tracks carved in the mood of the old ways.
The guitars oscillate between slow but fierce riffs and ferocious fast passages, forming Obduktion's primordial sounding. Some riffs reminded me of the good old DEATH. The "soft brutality of the vocals intensifies the dark and primitive feelings that emerge from the two tracks. A sturdy bass and some good, speedy drumbeats complete this fine musical work of those three guys from Athens.
What surprised me was the high-quality production since the band has not yet signed with a label (but I am sure they will in due course).
As far as the theme of this album is concerned, I was informed that "The Day Of Massacre refers to the tragic historical event of the burning of Smyrni by the Turks and the carnage that followed, in 1922. The same is depicted on the cover of the album. The fact that they chose a historical event as a concept - even if it is one of the saddest moments of the Hellenic history - gives Obduktion another positive point (from me at least) since not many (Greek) death metal bands follow this path, mainly because of the difficulties in composing the "applicable lyrics.
These two tracks are just a small sample showing that this promising band has a lot to offer not only to the Greek death metal, but also to the entire death metal scene. I will certainly be waiting for their complete album.
