AGE OF ARTEMYS is a power metal quintet from Brazil. The band was formed eleven years ago and since then has released two full-length albums in 2011 and 2014. Five years after their previous release, they unleash their third album "Monomyth". The album contains 14 bright and energetic tracks. Prelude "Status Quo" is a tension building prelude, introducing the concept of the album. From there, "The Calling" comes in in an all-out power metal form. The drums are strong and powerful, the vocals in dynamic, and it has a very impressive solo. The energy is too high and the succeeding song "Helping Hand" quickly backs it up in the same fashion. You can already notice just from the two tracks that Pedro Campos is on top form, utilizing different styles and executing it with authority.

"Unknown Strength" is a progressive song and has a tense atmosphere. The song also features another blazing guitar solo, and right there you can say that the album relies on strong guitar works, beefy bass lines and a very energetic and dynamic singing. "Lightning Strikes" is another proof, having a headbang-worthy intro with a loud bass sound. From there on, the album becomes predictable. And that is because of a seemingly fixed song structure. You'll expect strong riffs on the intro, momentum buildup on the choruses, big choruses, the solo and then the final verse and chorus - all in a very energetic manner. But to your surprise, "The Call of the Fear" arrives in a very different way. It is so much slower compared to the other songs, which gives it a little bit of a power ballad impression. The overall emotion and atmosphere of the song is heavy, and Pedro's singing plays through it with all might. Another slower song is "Endless Fight". It has a very different vibe compared to the first songs but it is definitely not out of place. They are actually pretty impressive with this approach, and it simply displays further Pedro's astounding singing. Undeniably, this track is one of the highlights of the album.

"What Really Matters" is the most progressive and most dynamic song in the record. It has lots of shifts in mood and tempo. You'd actually expect a power ballad in the opening moments of the song but you'll be surprised with a sudden turn it will make. The album then is closed by the semi-power ballad "A Great Day To Live". The song has a very lively tune, with a very bright and positive atmosphere. The song is also a very good conclusion to the story line. Two bonus tracks feature instrumentals of "Lightning Strikes" and "Endless Fight". To sum it up, first of all I'd like to mention that it has a good concept. Each instrumentalist laid down great performances specially the axe-men. There is a very minimal variety in the styles of the songs though, for majority of the songs follow the same equation except for the three last songs I have mentioned earlier. Still, it has an entertaining combo of old school power metal with thick guitar riffs and modern age power metal with classy synths and keys and a touch of some symphonic elements. The production is also excellent. Lastly, with a singer like Pedro Campos and a bunch of tremendously talented instrumentalists, I'm sure this album would create very memorable live performances.
