Good day Metal-Temple. Today I'm here to review the new album from Adam Scott under the project name DARK INSIGNIA - "Dark Insignia II (Threat of Salvation)". This is their second album in the year 2015 alone, hence the number II. This Progressive Metal band from Canada has something to give for sure, but it fell a bit short of my expectation.
The talent is present for sure, the song writing is great, but the vocals don't do it for me. It feels flat and off most of the time. On the other side, the guitar solos are amazing. This is not surprising coming from Adam Scott, who teach guitar for a living. What usually hook me up though are the vocals and it didn't happen with DARK INSIGNIA.
Apart from a few acoustic songs, I had a hard time differentiating the songs. "New Eyes", "We Stay The Same", "The Light" and "The Ride" are mostly acoustic, and it brings a bit more out of the vocals I think. As for the other 9 songs, it felt like the vocals had 2 tones mostly, one a bit laid back and one more like yelling with more grits. But they sound mostly the same, always in the same range of notes. There were some flashes here and there of good bits, but it didn't last long.
I'm still giving a decent note because of the song writing since I did enjoy the guitar solo and the acoustic sound of the previously mentioned songs. Though, I will probably not remember this album in a few months or so. Which is sad since it's almost like a local band to me.
I could see this appealing to some Progressive Metal fan thought, they have a good product musically. All it needs is some more work on the vocal tones to really bring some life along their awesome music.<
