So Many Years Of Longing
Dead Summer Society

Ever needed a band well, a one-man band in this case, that does Metal on their own very well and with infinite talent? DEAD SUMMER SOCIETY is just that. It is a surprising effort I must say that must have taken months upon months upon months to perfect and since the debut album "Visions From A Thousand Lives" it took Mist 3 years to release this, yes, I am going to say masterpiece this very early on, it deserves the rank.
An introduction with "So Many Years" which is the calm before the storm of this great masterpiece of an album. Enjoyable, crushing riffs, pounding drums and added atmospheric keyboards make this classic feel like a conceptual album, which I assume most one-man projects are, but this atmospheric Doom/Gothic Black Metal killer is a one of a kind gem, I can not stress that enough.
"Coldness Gods" continue the imagination that definitely makes this feel conceptual, growling vocals add the vision that devastation was left after a destructive war revealing certain beings looking over it. (just my imagination going a bit nuts) As the powerful riffs and truly fine sound production continue, it leaves me wanting more and more, things calm down at the end. I am really using my imagination here.
The tracks are fairly long but I can't stress the enjoyment this masterpiece gives off. "It Devours My Faith" is another favourite of mine, the inner Black Metal this album provides is strong with this one, an insanely epic, grooving introduction leave me having a pound of enjoyment. A female vocal comes in so there is a good variety of everything in this album, which is why I think it deserves a masterpiece status.
The riffs feel so good and deeply evil as they carry on leaving that variety feel to boot. I can not recommend this album enough. I would just love to be able to witness this Live, which I assume can't be possible?
"Some Peace To Feel" starts off with my imagination growing stronger and the story continuing. A similar riff from the previous song but adding an imaginary sense of after destruction. After a 3 year wait to release this classic album, Mist really knew how to make people think with this, well, especially me. Story, and just straight up epic musicianship, hell I can't really add anything more than, brilliance.
The record gets better with "Longing" and "Shatters" as the second part proceeds using my imagination again, "So Many Years Of Longing" (through Rain Without End Records) continues to feel like a story about survivors on a desolate place. "Shatters" is perhaps my favourite song, I found myself enjoying it and going a bit nuts on top, half way through it gets more brutal, the groove is strong here.
The rest of the album has a very similar outing and continues the atmospheric masterpiece "State Of Waiting" and "Every Death Is Certain" continue the story with a sound production that is spot on. I don't really have any complaints with this album.
For an atmospheric Doom/Black Metal concept album Mist really knew how to combine the two genres and make a one album masterpiece Doom, Goth and Black Metal fans would definitely appreciate. With a bit of everything Metal fans in general should enjoy you would be a fool to pass this up. I will certainly be recommending this to my Metal friends. To sum this album up in one word well...
