Oh, Florida. My neighbor to the south and the Unholy land and breeding grounds for some of the best Death Metal bands that have risen to the surface. One such band is ABIOTIC from Miami. Formed in 2010, they released their debut EP a year later. Their first full-length album came in 2012 with the groundbreaking "Symbiosis." After much anticipation, they have finally recorded their latest album entitled "Casuistry" which is set for an April 2015 release date.

ABIOTIC bring with them a serious destructiveness to their sound. The technicality their music possesses speaks to their talent and creativity. Some of their influences are bands that are surprisingly similar in sound and notability such as THE FACELESS, WITHIN THE RUINS, and WRETCHED. "Casuistry" (defined as the use of clever but unsound reasoning, I had to look this one up) is a pretty intense, unrelenting series of double bass blast beats and furiously technical guitar solos, all spread across varying tempos and time signature changes.

For a Death Metal act, there are actually some hints of melody to be found in places across the album. The seventh track "Falling into Obscurity" is a good example, featuring a haunting background tune that adds character to the otherwise straightforward Death Metal sound. There is not really anything generic about the riffs either. I get the feeling that it came as second nature to these guys when it was time to put together some new material. All nine tracks have their own character and do not seem to borrow much from the others on the album. The hype that ABIOTIC generated with the news of this upcoming release is ultimately justified.

With an array of different song titles and song structures, I got the sense that "Casuistry" represents the concepts of transition, diversity, and innovation. This band has a lot to be proud of and this is an incredible installment to their discography. This is something for almost any Metalhead to enjoy!
