Get ready for a travel through maniacal battles, war frays between gods for the conquering of the world and vampires thirsty for fresh blood. All these with the Epic Heavy chariot of WISHDOOM who wield their musical sword from the north city of Greece, Thessalonica.
Up The Hammers is the first work for this new born band and includes an intro, Makedonia, Land Of Alexandros, three songs, one semi instrumental and a medley to some BATHORY epic tunes. Influences, now: they have all the basic elements that environ almost every Epic band. From IRON MAIDEN in Vampyre's Night, transformed via USA's prismatic lenses like OMEN, plus MANOWAR, MANILLA ROAD and some of the aura of epic BATHORY era. It is also obvious a Doom prospect in their sound that brings them close to bands like DOOMSWORD or REFLECTION and a lyrical expression with ideas compilation like in ARRYAN PATH's music. Basically from all the above groups the last one is what closer you can find to WISHDOOM and tracks like the Zeus (The Thunderer) endorse it.
Although we are talking about a D.I.Y. release it has a likeable sound and if we count in that is their very first recording I would say that WISHDOOM made it perfect. The song that really is bone breaking is Up The Hammers. It has a fantastic calm waters beginning and the scream of their vocalist where he calls for Ares, the God Of War, is pure Metal orgasm. The riffs are powerful and the solos are very well settled with much meaning inside.
Almost in the same quality levels stands the Vampyre's Night; you will enjoy head - banging here with good guitars but some changes although are nice in what they have to say do not follow a physical sequence in song's fluxion. Lastly the band choose to cover in a medley the Blood And Iron, Valhalla, Baptized In Fire And Ice and Shores In Flames from BATHORY and is really very good. To be honest I cannot find any negative. And all these are coming from a very demanding BATHORY fan. The basic is the vocals and the passion and I find them very cool which is the most important. WISHDOOM did the whole thing with much respect and they win the impressions.
I liked this mini album a lot. They have a good singer, something VERY RARE for the Hellenic scene, although from what have I read inside the booklet, he is a session member. If the song's structure been worked more carefully and their ideas bowl along easier we surely will hear better things from them. Anyway for now, order the album, listen the self - titled song in their myspace and destroy your neck with their sounds.
