SACRED SHRINES: New Song "Collision."
November 4, 2017
Australia's psych/garage cult quintet Sacred Shrines will release its debut album, Come Down from the Mountain, on November 17 via Rogue Wave Records. The Brisbane-based group delivers juicy psychedelic and garage-inspired tunes with fuzzy guitars and driving rhythms wrapped in gorgeous reverb and a rare authenticity. In advance of the record's release, Shindig! Magazine premieres the new song "Collisions" as well as a short film that documents the making of Sacred Shrines' debut LP. "'Collisions" is one of the earlier tracks we worked on when we formed the band and I think it's a good example of the more garage end of where our sound sits," says vocalist / guitarist Phil Usher. "The song is about that moment where you find yourself at the edge of making an important decision and the feeling you get when you're standing at the precipice before you push the button. This track was mixed by Michael Badger from The Demon Parade and he definitely nailed the sound we were shooting for. The exploding backwards guitar solo does it for me every time."
Come Down from the Mountain is the follow-up to Sacred Shrines' double A-Side 7", "Apollo / Hung Up On Your Wall", released in 2014 to celebrate the band's inaugural live gig. In a bold move, the band employed some of its favorite engineers from around the world to mix the record's individual tracks, in an attempt to capture a unique sound for each song. With tracks mixed by Brett Orrison (of The Black Angels), Michael Badger (of King Gizzard & The Lizzard Wizzard, The Demon Parade) and Liam Judson (of Cloud Control, The Laurels), Come Down from the Mountain is a heady collection of cosmic sounds and contrasting songwriting which steps through ever-changing terrain, from hazy, psych-pop to heavier, drone, freak-out jams.
Come Down from the Mountain is a prismatic view of the musical mantra Sacred Shrines has been carving from their collective hive-mind since their inception in 2014. During their brief tenure, Sacred Shrines has shared stages with The Dandy Warhols, The Upside Down, The Demon Parade, Flyying Colours, Tumbleweed, The Murlocs, ORB, Dreamtime and many more - touring extensively throughout their native country.
"It's a privilege to have our debut album released on Rogue Wave Records," says guitarist / vocalist Phil Usher. 'Come Down From The Mountain' is a collection of some of the best songs we've written during our short tenure as Sacred Shrines. Due to the somewhat diverse nature of the songs, we wanted to present them in a way that would capture the individuality of each track. We're really blown away with the result and very proud to present this collection as a sort of opening statement or mantra of our musical vision as a band."
