The Entire Band - (Raw Silk)

Raw Silk are Greece's most legendary band in the Melodic/Hard Rock domain. They have always been very popular between rockers and metalheads both in and out of Greece although shortly after the circulation of their masterpiece, Silk Under The Skin (1991) they practically vanished. It was a great surprise for us all the announcement of their participation as a support band in Pink Cream 69 and Jeff Scott Soto's show in Athens (September 10th). There is even the case of people who are going to this show only for Raw Silk - personally I'm aware of one such case.

So, there were many things to talk about with them when I went to Costas Kyriakidis' house for this interview. Apart from the drummer and composer of their hits I also met Yorgos Florakis, the initial vocalist, and Dimitris Bizos, the newcomer guitarist, there. Here's what they had to say (and you wouldn't be able to read it if it wasn't for Orpheus who transcribed and translated the interview from Greek to English at the same time. Thanks Orfy!).

Andrew Hercules & Sean Dooley - (The End)

Ok, those of you who have read my interviews before are probably familiar with the fact that I like to have fun during interviews and this one is no different. It's by far the most fun I've ever had during an interview because these guys are friends of mine (we met way before I ever thought about working for Metal Temple) and we were all shit faced drunk by the time we did this interview. In the text, I did notate certain areas where we laughed, but we pretty much laughed through the entire thing. This may be the most fun interview I've done yet, but it was also the most difficult to conduct. I recommend trying it sometime. Try to conduct a supposed serious interview with a couple of friends while being plastered drunk and having your best friend film the whole thing, who's also drunk, and see how well it goes. It's guaranteed fun!

Seriously, these guys are awesome. If you haven't heard them yet, (where the hell have you been) I highly recommend checking them out. It's great Hardcore Metal, almost like Opeth meet Dillinger Escape Plan... anyway, onto the interview...

After André Matos (vocals), Luís Mariutti (bass) and Ricardo Confessori (drums) split from Angra, they decided to get together and form a new band. When Hugo Mariutti (Luís Mariutti's brother) auditioned for the band, it was clear that they had found the right man for the guitars. Three years after the release of their first album, Reason, and after the release of a live DVD, Ritualive, Shaaman finally step onto the limelight with their second Metal work, Reason, a piece of true, visceral Heavy Metal that speaks to the fan through its honesty and powerful identity. It was Hugo Mariutti who answered, by e-mail, the questions this time.

Gorerotted is one of the leading acts within the extreme Death Metal scene in the U.K. nowadays (as well as in the rest of the world, in my opinion), so when I was asked to interview them, I accepted the challenge at once. Doing an interview via MSN Messenger was something I hadn't done before and I didn't know what to expect, but having Tim (a.k.a. Fluffy, guitars) on the other side of the monitor proved to be one hell of a time. Thankfully he was in a very good mood, it happens when you've consumed a lot of booze in the last 3 days! We spent 2 delightful hours talking (and drinking) about the new album, A New Dawn For The Dead (released on Monday, June 13th), and about life in general. Tim has an excellent sense of humor and although he was tired (just came back from a show in Austria), he was kind enough to answer all of my questions. Interviews via MSN Messenger can be real fun, you have the chance to change pictures and nicknames while you talk and make jokes, while you surf the internet. In late 2004 there was a period where I had tons of phone interviews, e-mail interviews and up close interviews. What's wrong with that? Nothing, apart from the fact that you can't really handle all this when you've got a million of other stuff to take care of at the same time. Oh well, there is a Greek saying that says better late than never, so without any further ado I bring you Mr. Doug Scarratt, one of Saxon's axemen. Saxon being a legendary N.W.O.B.H.M. band simply meant from the very start that this interview was surely gonna be an interesting one. Well, I'll let you be the judge of that.
