There aren't a lot of American Metal bands continuing in the traditional vein. That is why I am so pleased about the discovery of Hush. Their sound harkens me back to the 1980's and induces a fair amount of headbanging.
The music is competent but not outstanding. Their songs are energetic and angry, except for a few ballads, which are still good enough to keep your interest. Their oppressive, catchy brand of Metal is tinged with the fun Rock 'n' Roll vibe typical of early Metal bands. In their case, that Rock is Southern and mostly fun. I would say their songs are bouncy, except that there is something dark about them, as if happiness is unable to pierce the band's skin.
Hush's guitar work has a decent amount of flash but without letting the lead-work overstay, it's welcome. The singer has a great range but rarely makes use of it, he stays mostly within deeper territory. I found this slightly disappointing, I kept hoping he'd explore more of it. The lyrics vary in quality, from above average to (rarely) bad.
My favorite song on Something's Wrong With Me is Broken Heart, a particularly catchy, mid-tempo tune. It has good dynamics and can get pretty heavy at times. Its lyrics are good and some of the best on the album. Standing  Still, which has a cool riff, is a fast paced song with good lyrics, comparing a car race with the quest for success. Ball & Chain is a dynamic song that goes from soft to hard and shows, perhaps, the most Southern Rock influence on this release. It has particularly good lead-work, and good to okay lyrics. It is about bad habits getting in the way of your doing what you want to do.
All in all, Something's Wrong With Me is a promising beginning but nothing more.
