137 - Prey To Your Deception
October 22, 2024
What surprises me most of all when listening to “Prey To Your Deception” is the fact that 137 never had the luxury or pleasure of being signed to any label. To me that is like the very definition of a grave injustice.

Sign of the Jackal - Heavy Metal Survivors
October 22, 2024
As for the music on “Heavy Metal Survivors”, it is as straight forward as an arrow. Hard driven riffs, flanked by thumping bass sounds and very inspired drumming is what SIGN OF THE JACKAL is shooting at you. it works, and it will have you interested in a heartbeat.

Sinner's Blood - Dark Horizons
October 22, 2024
As for the musical direction SINNER’S BLOOD has chosen, it is Melodic Metal, with a mix of Heavy and Power Metal mixed in constantly, but also some slightly Industrial and even Gothic snippets here and there. And whilst listening to “Dark Horizons” I can only conclude that they do have their ducks in a row, as what SINNER’S BLOOD is playing is being done with a bucketload of conviction, a heap of enthusiasm, a lot of good sounding harmony vocals and an abundance of musical ability.

Stryper - When We Were Kings
October 22, 2024
The thing is, when the music starts you will immediately be able to identify it as STRYPER. The way the riffing is done, the sound of the guitars, the structures of the songs and of course the very distinctive voice of Michael Sweet make sure you know who you’re listening to.

War Dogs - Only The Stars Are Left
October 22, 2024
Spain is a country that is producing more and more bands that fit into the NWOTHM category. That in itself is quite commendable, as long as the bands in question make good music. One of those is WAR DOGS from Alicante, in the South of that country.

D-A-D - Speed of Darkness
October 15, 2024
For those who are not familiar with D-A-D, the4ir musical style is Hard Rock, with a definite AEROSMITH vibe running through the songs, with (of course) some AC/DC parts thrown in for good measure. And then they add their own musical influences in the blender. This mix gives them a sound that is very much their own, very recognisable, but also very accessible and extremely easy to listen to.

Satan - Songs in Crimson
October 15, 2024
But I can hear in the sound of the guitars that SATAN is smiling. He is seeing that the world is going down fast, and that his kingdom and reign is about to take hold. That might explain why the riffs on “Songs In Crimson” sound less menacing than they usually do, instead they sound more upbeat.

Wicked Maraya - Cycles
October 15, 2024
WICKED MARAYA. After releasing their demo in 1993 they were signed, which led to the original release of “Cycles”. And now, it has been rereleased to celebrate its thirtieth birthday.

Virgin Steele - Guardians Of The Flame (Reissue)
October 5, 2024
I have also reviewed their debut album “Virgin Steele I”, and the leap forward from that one is remarkable. Not that they have improved so much in the quality department, as that was already okay on that one, but VIRGIN STEELE has been able to filter down all the angels they were aiming for on that one and brought it down to a few.

Virgin Steele - Virgin Steele I (Reissue)
October 5, 2024
If you wish to know, this sounds more like a compilation album than a VIRGIN STEELE album. Why is that so? Well, this really is a debut album, and the band hadn’t decided on a definite musical direction yet. You will hear just about anything, from AOR and Glam Metal to Power Metal to US Metal and Heavy Metal.

Moggs Motel - Moggs Motel
October 3, 2024
“Moggs Motel” is a very pleasant record to listen to. The songs are simple, straight forward, but also with enough body and variety to keep your mind active.

Bütcher - On Fowl of Tyrant Wing
October 3, 2024
BÜTCHER is on its second life. The first one was from 2002 until 2007, and only produced two demos. This time their existence started in 2017, and has brought us as Metal afficionados a lot more physical music. Metal with is mostly Speed orientated, with large additions of Black Metal and a little bit less Thrash Metal parts.
