Ars Onirica – 2.5 – Nighttime
September 25, 2025
Although only an EP, this album was quite memorable. It had a mix of anger, some sadness, and best of all, hope, and the way the artist combined them was done with great timing. Overflowing with magic, indeed.

Skjolden – Insoucient Metaphysical Granduer
September 24, 2025
This was a fantastic album…Melo Death, combined Black Metal. Carl kept your interest by creating songs that were energetic and speedy, but also with a lot of emotional depth. Both the lyrics and the cover art are excellent as well, and it’s clear that he presents a total package here.

My Last Promise – A Funeral of Being
September 23, 2025
For me, “A Funeral of Being” is an excellent descriptor of the duality of our existence. Consider the phrasing of the album title We all try our best, most of the time, so why does it seem like we are always getting beat down, and can’t get ahead? Maybe that’s the pessimist in me talking. In any case, the album is an absolute depressive affair that is fueled by raw emotion.

My Purest Heart For You – Australopithecus
September 23, 2025
This is an album that seems relatively easy to assimilate, but it presents as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. There are a lot of mysteries within, and the story goes deeper than just tortured screams over melancholy, solemn music. In many ways, I don’t want to unravel them. I would rather leave them there for the next listener.

“From Welkin To Tundra” offers a smart blend of different styles with Black and Thrash Metal at its core but also including Speed Metal, Hardcore, and Punk elements

Dead Heat - Process of Elimination
September 21, 2025
I like is that the songs will have you thrashing around at some times, moshing the room when needed and headbanging until your neck snaps the rest of the time. Oh, and if you have a chandelier, who knows, you might feel the need to using it to swing about like Tarzan does.

Paradox – Mysterium
September 20, 2025
The songs on “Mysterium” are all of a very good standard, all have a tale to tell, and are without exception well written, properly played and expertly recorded.

Hatred's Rise - Echoes Of The Machine
September 20, 2025
HATRED’S RISE has a hell of a sound, but most of all is comprised by a group of very good and experienced players.

Thy Apokalypse – Fragment Quatrieme (Metacosmos)
September 19, 2025
This was a delightfully dark album that was well composed, and well performed. At times, the sound was so thick it felt as if the wheels might come of the bus careening across the highway at breakneck speed, but Adz always maintains control. That was the centerpiece of the album for me, how he managed just enough restraint amidst a veritable shower of chaotic sound, thick riffs, and lightning fast blast beat drumming. Darkness was the key…it’s everywhere.
review
Outlaw – Opus Mortis
September 18, 2025
The best part of the album for me was their raw energy and their commitment to their trade. They fired up the engine, ran them until they were dry, and kept running them until they crumbled. This is aggression at its finest.
review
Antiversum – De Nemesis Omnes et Omnia
September 17, 2025
For me, the album takes place during a period of time when man tries to claim what belongs to nature. Since it’s a cold slab of land way up North, man thinks it will be an easy claim. But nature always wins. She fights back subtly, but hard, with a variety of weapons at her disposal. Over time, she not only beats back man, but murders man and covers it up, returning the order as it was established, and waiting patiently for the next group of adventurers.

Helstar - The Devil's Masquerade
September 17, 2025
The music on “The Devil's Masquerade” also is just about the best that I have heard from HELSTAR in a long time. This is pure class.

Hydra Vein - Perpetual Violence Machine
September 17, 2025
The songs on “Perpetual Violence Machine” will have you participating for as far as your brain, but most of all your body, allows you. It has that kind of magnetism that makes what HYDRA VEIN plays sound and feel almost addictive, but most of all that good that you are wondering why they stopped at making just an EP.

Metalheads may appreciate it, especially those into Stoner and Psych; Rock fans will have zero reasons to object and plenty of reasons to approve.

Argesk – Moonlight Pyromancy
September 14, 2025
I found the band’s use of aggression to be every bit as strong as their sense of melody, and not a lot of albums achieve that balance. Each time you may have though they were leading you into the abyss, a welcomed hand grabbed you and pulled you back. This is a Black Metal album for those who like melody in addition to fury.

Unsouling – Outward Stream of Devotional Woe
September 13, 2025
This was a Black Metal album that expands your definition of the genre. At times, it has fierce aggression, while at others, it is more solemn. The artist also mixes in some Post element to keep in modern. I invite you to take in the “Onward Stream of Devotional Woe” and discover some of its secrets for yourself.

Smohalla – Ruina Draconis
September 12, 2025
The album takes full advantage of everything that modern day Black Metal can offer fans, and then some. It is indeed layers, nuanced, and complicated at times, but the familiar ring of keyboard notes help to keep it accessible. The musicians, are fantastic, as is their adventurous sense of songwriting. This is an album that smartly takes a few listens to fully explore, and even then, there is more waiting to be discovered.

Atomik Train - Atomik Train
September 12, 2025
Canada has given the world three of my favorite pass times, hockey, drinking beer and eating bacon, and two of the three I am considered a pro. They also know how to rock and roll, so let me put my beer and bacon down as I drop the needle on the latest import ATOMIK TRAIN.

Mélancolia – Random.Access.Misery
September 12, 2025
One thing is sure, MÉLANCOLIA are an angry bunch. Well, singer Alex Hill certainly is. I keep wondering how anyone can keep up this level of aggression for 34:10 minutes without literally spilling their guts all over the studio floor.

This I Owe – Alchemists
September 12, 2025
Let me take away any doubts; if you like Melodic Heavy Metal with some extra influences thrown in, you might just like what THIS I OWE is bringing on “Alchemists”. Wheel Of Time – Asymmetry
September 11, 2025
Progressive Metal of this high calibre and quality needs to be heard by every Prog enthusiast, but also by every Melodic afficionado. The songs are all bloody brilliant, to say the least. The production is clear and transparent, but also very clean. It means that although this is Progressive Metal, the ProgRock fan should also be able to enjoy what WHEEL OF TIME is offering on “Asymmetry”.

Echoes of Gloom – The Mind’s Eternal Storm
September 9, 2025
Overall, this was an enjoyable album, and considering it was all made by just one artist makes it that much better. It was in the vein of traditional Black Metal, but Dan kept things fresh with elements of Doom and even some atmospheric passages. This was a promising debut album and a band to keep an eye on.

Chelmno – Decadence of Ego
September 8, 2025
Black Metal purists may like this album. I understand where the FWOBM sound came from, and why it formed, but I am more of a fan of the expansive fans in the genre and what they are doing today. This just feels like a few steps back into time for me, and I say, let the past stay in the past.

Crimson Coven - -0- The Genesis
September 8, 2025
Even though there isn’t an original note or lyrical line to be found on “-0- The Genesis”, I can’t help but enjoy what CRIMSON COVEN has put out. But as the songs are quite lengthy, give them time to grow on you.

Kingdom - Primeval Cult Of Strength In The Womb Of Suffer
September 8, 2025
Even though most of the time you can’t understand what Death Metal bands are grunting about, KINGDOM makes it even harder by using their mother tongue when vomiting their lyrics through my speakers. And I applaud that, as it does make it easier for the artist to properly express what they intend to say. Or in this case, grunt.
review
Monoliyth - He Who Kills
September 8, 2025
“He Who Kills” is Brutal Death Metal, but still houses a lot of those small moments of subtlety, even if they sometimes only last a second. And I am glad they have done that, as it gives the Death Metal attack on the senses a little more depth, a tiny amount of emotion that isn’t rage, anger or violence.
review
Modder – Destroying Ourselves for a Place in the Sun
September 8, 2025
Overall, this was an absolutely crushing album. Even without vocals, the point was easily made. They took whatever ingredients they could find, crushed them endlessly, until they dissolved into the stew with one stir. As I mentioned above, there is heavy, and then there is MODDER.
