Hyper-Death
Aabode
I’ve got AABODE blasting to my speakers, and I have to tell you that even after many a listen I can’t make head nor tails of what these two individuals are trying to convey, or which messages they are trying to send.
At The Mercy Of The Merciless
Anti-Sapien
I will never be a massive Death Metal fan, plus I’ll always steer clear of anything Grindcore related, but somehow listening to ANTI-SAPIEN on this “At The Mercy Of The Merciless” has found a way to surpass my reservations and draw me in with ease.
Spirit
Distant
I have been listening to the new single “Spirit” and I have to say that I’m liking what I hear. Yes, this is undoubtedly Deathcore, but I have a feeling that there are a lot of fans of contemporary Death Metal that will be able to enjoy this just as much.
Trinity Of Suns
Lynx
LYNX is a quite comfortable band to listen to, with good musicians that know their stuff, and with Amy Zine they have a singer in their midst that might not be top of the bill, but does her job in a more than satisfactory manner. “Trinity Of Suns” is a decent, solid and very reliable album musically as well as vocally.
Unchurch
Unchurch
UNCHURCH is going for fast, furious and as brutal as they can. That doesn’t mean all is done at top speed. Nope, they operate just a tad underneath that. What they do try is cram as many notes as they can into every second they are playing, making the space to let the music breathe to be just about non-existent. This is a full-on barrage of a wall of noise that is trying to fall down on top of you and crush you in the process.
The Dark Triad
Visions of Terror
What I hear VISIONS OF TERROR play on “The Dark Triad” is a very nice combination of Melodeath and Modern Metal, with outbursts of Heavy Metal and Grindcore to boot. All of that is packed in short, direct and very intense songs that will have you at the edge of your seat. The advantage of such short songs is that they don’t get the chance to bore you, that you won’t find a note on their that isn’t needed.
Quisma
HeKz
This was a carefully constructed album that overstayed its welcome just a little. This long time Progressive Rock fan found it hard to digest at times. It wasn’t the band’s musicianship, or the passion they put into each song, it was just an overly-circuitous path, and the length caused some of the sound to meander. It’s worth checking out, and drawing your own conclusions, that’s for sure. For me, it could have used a bit of shaving down.
Absentia
Splendidula
SPLEDIDULA renders a surprising amount of depth and breadth, especially for a trio, with “Absentia.” So dark it’s bright.
Hævnen
Vansind
I continue to be impressed by the strength of the songwriting of VANSIND as well as their ability to reconcile the raw and the refined into a sheer sonic elegance. “Hævnen” is both visceral and graceful, a stunning sophomore effort by VANSIND.
Atlantic Ridge
Atlantic Ridge
This wasn’t a bad album per se, it just felt disjointed to me, and some of the songs ran together in terms of their sound. The drum programming you can just hear clearly, and it turned me off a bit. Credit the band for not following a tried and true blueprint for the genre, it was just a little off the mark for me.
Realm Of Ghouls
Ghoulhouse
“Realm Of Ghouls” offer traditional Swedish Death Metal with the chainsaw guitars, the typical mid-tempo rhythm, and a spine-chilling sound. The guitar riffing is devastating, while the growls are blood-freezing
Seraphim
Ophidian Memory
“Seraphim” is not mainstream, it is a journey with plenty of steps beyond the paths of melodic Death Metal. The album fuses various Death Metal subgenres including progressive elements
The Ebb and Flow of Galactic Tides
Lightlorn
This was an excellent album, and it’s all about the band’s sophisticated sense of balance. Balance between aggression and rage, and tempered melodies that blow in like a sudden breeze. It kept the contentious moments, which rose with might and power, at bay, while providing the listener a much needed shot of color at just the right time. You also can’t help but to marvel at how well the melodies are put together.
Rebirth in Despair
Atone
This was an excellent Doom album that seemed to come to life with each passing note. Emotions also doubled along the journey and ATONE was able to squeeze the songs for as much impact as possible. You will find rage, regret, hatred, and loneliness here, as well as an impending sense that your days are numbered.
I am the Earth
Conjurist
Do you like Gojira? Meshuggah? Alcest? Fallujah? Pallbearer? Converge? Mastodon? Acid Bath? Well, if you're like me, currently drooling over this all-star FFO lineup, get ready for Tennessee's own Conjurist, who believes he's right up our alley.

Reckless
Chez Kane
It’s no surprise that the best part of the album is the vocals. She has a warm voice that invites you in for a bite, and she has near perfect pitch. She delivers with fire, with passion, and with confidence. Unlike some AOR music however, the music has energy and life, fueled by both key changes that keep you on your toes as well as a deep desire for music with style and substance.
El Batec dels Maquis
Sotabosc
This was an excellent album, and I felt that I was following a story of resolve, will, and survival along the journey. It also holds delicate balance in the fingers of a higher being, who could turn the dial one way or the other, but just lets it play out as intended. Heavy with emotion, it’s the kind of album that will get under your skin and forces your hand.
Devoid of Thought
Devoid of Thought
This was an excellent album, and it didn’t follow the usual trail that Death Metal band often revel in. Instead, they took a detour down an unmarked path and forged their own sound, which was as black and filthy as the void itself.
Isle of Bliss
Hanging Garden
How much sound can an eight-piece band produce? Endless amounts. The album is like a battle between good and evil, right and wrong, light and darkness even. Toggling from feelings of dread to the pure excitement of an adrenaline rush, it’s rich, lush, and elegant.
Theos-Vel-Samael
Ain Sof Aur
This was a fascinating album and a progressive and technical marvel. In considering the themes of the album, what is meant to me is the destruction of your old self so you can transform into something better and newer…or gnosis through darkness. However, these kinds of occult ideals typically come with a steep price…your soul. If you want to walk down that path, make sure you understand the consequences.
Imum
Vitrified Entity
Yes, those are blast beats. Yes, they are fast. Yes, that guitar solo took a minute and a half. I get it!
IV
Naryan
This was an excellent album, combining what heavy emotional music can offer when it intersects with melody. I don’t get a lot of KATATONIA’s sound here, but that’s OK, because the band should be able to stand on their own, and they do. It’s rich, memorable, and leaves a lasting impression.
In Memorium
Superior Rage
This was an excellent album. Although it steeped in the traditions of the genre, which date back to the late 80’s/early 90’s, the band refused to be define by them. Instead, they venture out on their own and lay down a fiery path that lights the way for their journey.
The Art of Abysswalking
The Oldest House
This album was a slab of devastation, despondence and rage that left me unable to decided which fate is worse. Would it be more cruel to die burning alive? Disemboweled and fed to rabid dogs? Peeling my flesh off one strip at a time? Bled out slowly? Or, left in a dungeon without food or water? Buried alive in a coffin? You can use whatever method of death you might wonder about, and none of them would amount to the black hole that is alive on this album.
Exequiae
Lone Wanderer
A great piece to get lost in. It feels big enough to escape the troubles of the world and strong enough to keep those troubles out . . . at least for one hour 12 minutes and 24 seconds.
Forever Beyond
Black Lung
If you're like me and are just discovering this band, it’s kind of a blessing and a curse. Blessing: Great band; great album. Curse: Guess who’s buying four more albums. Sigh. The things I do for metal.
Epigrama
Erdve
Tightly woven songs? That’s an understatement. Part Metalcore, part Hardcore, and part Sludge, they take the best of what each one of the genres has to offer the listener and stirs it into their stew of blood, bones, and tissue. The sound is both alive and dead…meaning that when it’s alive, you can feel it coursing through your veins and it burns. When it’s dead, you feel cold, numb, and hopeless. They hit both of the extremes here very we
The Human Farm
Vanderlust
This was a solid release. The band is clearly talented, as we as being meticulous about their songwriting, and it is indeed a polished and mature sound. They don’t let their talent just run loose here, instead, they harness it so that it shines when it needs to, but not interfering with the story, the melody, or the emotional ebb and flow throughout the album.
Death Knocks
Hoaxed
“Death Knocks” is a beautiful, delicate flower in the full bloom of early spring, defying the cold air and nearly frozen ground, and you don’t have to dig for the melancholy, catchy music. It feels like a journey to me, where you leave the present behind and visit…the past, or the future? In the past, you are reminded that you can’t change things. In the future, you might glimpse at where your choices will lead. Either way, it’s a sobering experience that gets under your skin and takes up residence, making sure you never forget it.
Darkness Is My Crown
Defacing God
“Darkness Is My Crown” is blood-freezing, devastating, relentless, and epic. The album offers a perfect symbiosis of modern Black Metal and orchestral arrangements
The End Is Not The End
Atreyu
On 24 April 2026 it will be time for ATREYU to give us new music with “The End Is Not The End” and this American Metalcore band is a lot more than just that right now. The Melodic parts have definitely been embedded more into their music than they had before. Now there is a shifted balance between the really Heavy parts, the pure Metalcore music and the more Melodic influences.
Colours Of Pain
Bloodred
You know what strikes me more than anything else? That is that the quality of the songs on "Colours Of Pasin" is outstanding from start to finish. There are no weak spots, there are no lapses in making your ears tingle, making your hairs stand on end and BLOODRED just keeps sending shivers down my spine.
Steel Burner
Gus G.
For those who have never heard of GUS G., my question is; under which rock have you been hiding? Even if you don’t his original band FIREWIND, with whom he released the total of 11 albums, you should at least beware that he has been the main guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE for a number of years, resulting in him writing for the 2010 “Scream” album.
II - Ravings From the Gutter
Wolfshead
I just can’t find fault what the band is bringing on “II - Ravings From the Gutter”. It might not all be perfect, but it all sounds sincere, exudes the right kind of attitude. There isn’t a dull moment to be heard, so your ears will sharpen their hearing quite a few times, and your brains will try to accept and extort the information at its worth.
