For a project done by two guys, WORMWOOD's self titled release is pretty solid, but all in all there's not a whole lot of good I have to say, maybe its just my taste or maybe there are others who agree with me. Let me tell you my issues and you can see if im stupid or what.
Each of the tracks off of "Wormwood" sound very similar; the band takes on a Doom/Stoner Metal cross. When it comes to Doom Metal, this isn't what I expect out of it, and Stoner Metal I'm just not a huge fan of as it is. The vocal style is sort of like a dirty Black/Doom style with no real rasp or power to back it up, so it just sounds more like some guy with an accent yelling at you. The instrumentals are gritty, not that it bothers me to much, the riffs are your basic Stoner Metal style simple and constant and the lyrics are Doom styled, does it mix? Maybe with some bands but this isn't the one. Not to say it's all bad, although there's very little change in the riffs some of the riffs are brilliant and even if this isn't quite the band I want I do love some Doom Metal here and there.
In the end, WORMWOOD just aren't for me, there's nothing that really pulls me back to want to listen to it more and more and there's no reason for me to prefer this over most other albums, there's just wasn't enough pull. If you like Stoner Metal more than I do then maybe you'll enjoy it but it wasn't for me.
