Magnetic Eye Records and label friends an partners take on the seminal "Alice In Chains" album "Dirt" in full on the forth installment of their Redux series. These were various artists who all their own spin on these classic songs, one of my all time favorite albums in high school. This is going to be awesome, lets do this!

Of course the first song on the album is "Them Bones" performed by a sludge metal band from Baton Rough, Louisiana "Thou". A hard heavy twist with vicious growled lyrics on top of the regularly sang lyrics, the instruments were on point, good stuff. Was close to the original, and I liked it.

Onto "Dam That River", now this is done completely different then the original. A low down tuned intro, a slow tempo adds some darkness to the song. The lyrics aren't clearly heard, but you know what they are, there's a sinister feel to this track with the added sampling, and various sounds. It was interesting to say the least.

Moving on to the third track "Rain When I Die" with a down tuned bass bringing in the opening riff. The vocals are really good, and that classic Cantrell riff sounds badass. They didn't change up a whole lot of this song, but did perform it in their way. The tuning is lower, the vocalist owned it in his way, and you couldn't ask for a better cover.

Now we begin "Down In A Hole", and I love the intro. Heavy distorted chords replace the acoustic guitar, the vocals are just badass, and the chorus matches the darker heavier intro. They played this great instrumental before going into the second verse including a solo, and the part in the middle where is just done so well. That's how you cover a song, you take the song, and make it yours. They nailed it

I'm going to skip to "Rooster". This is again how to cover a song, they took the intro and put some heavy distortion on it. I love how they transformed the chorus, and the how the took the second verse to the next level. That down tuned riff going into and through the chorus is badass, and the solo knock it out of the park.

I will jump to "Dirt". The intro is badass, low, slow, an heavy. They continue that dark eerie tone into the lyrics, and chorus. They haven't changed the song a whole lot except for the tuning which really made the solo dark, and badass. A great song, and well done.

I'm going to highlight "Hate To Feel". I thought the way the song was done was pretty good. Not to different from the original, maybe tuned lower, but the vocalist made this song his. The chorus is good, the instrumentals are on point, I just really liked the from the gut screamed lyrics.

Overall, I really enjoyed these covers. Like I stated eariler, its one of my favorite albums, an to hear these musicians each make them theirs was a pleasure to listen too. If you're a big AIC fan, you have to listen to the classic hits. Every band did great, and if I could've I would have talked about every song.
