BRANT BJORK AND THE LOW DESERT PUNK BAND is a Rock and Roll band based out of California, USA. Former frontman for the Stoner band Kyuss, Brant released his first solo album in 1999. Following the release of more solo albums, THE LOW DESERT PUNK BAND formed and this is their third studio album. One writer described their live shows as "the best live Rock and Roll going" and "the closest thing we'll get to seeing the HENDRIX EXPERIENCE."

The fuzzy, plodding, BLACK SABBATH bass heavy entrance in "Controllers Destroyed" tells us we are taking a trip back in time, when Rock and Roll was simple, accessible and effective. Vocals are kept to a minimal here to focus on the main riff which drives the sound."We Don't Serve Their Kind" continues in this vein. It has a swinging, soulful kind of riff, and heavy bottom-end sound. Prolific use of cymbal reminds me of the band FIREBALL MINISTRY. The chorus is bombastic and the energy transferred here is mostly on the power of the E chord. Though the meter is similar, the riff in "Buddha Time" is a little more earnest and trippy sounding. There is also a little liveliness among the sludgy tempo in "Ain't No Runnin," including a little lead guitar work.

By contrast, "Hustler's Blues" is a quieter, more introspective song where the versus are kept very minimal, and the chorus is featured. Perhaps the best song on the album is the closing number, "Where You From Man," which typifies the Stoner kind of sound where I feel like I am in a Hookah lounge during the waning hours of the morning. There is no denying the simplicity of the listening experience from this retro-fitted sound. The band has set out to keep things grounded, and a memorable live experience.  However the slow, dragging pacing is all too familiar for me from track to track, and there is little deviation from the formula. I am not suggesting that the band becomes something that they are not, but a little change here and there is never a bad thing.
