Andreas Von Lipinski
More anger, more gloom, more disappointment when things aren't really going well, so what there is to do rather than unleash those feeling into something constructive, expressive and true? Writing about it of course. Returning with a heavy load to unpack from their souls, and shoulders, the German Heavy / Power Metal band, Veritates, continue their journey. Offering their new "Silent War" album, there is plenty of soul-searching, an experience to embrace and to expect. Steinmetal had once again a chat with the band's frontman, Andreas Von Lipinski, and it appears that new beginnings have a good effect.
There is a variety of versions, from a lot of people, going around in relation to the state of mankind, and what the future hold. An opinion that has been crossing between many is the way that the human race is vanquishing itself, slow and steady. Is it a matter of not really learning from mistakes or a decision to ignore the fact that people are their own tools of destruction? Signing in for their next chapter in their career, the German Melodic Death Metal Battlesword is back with "Towards The Unknown". Steinmetal reconvened with drummer Andreas Klingen about the new experience, the anniversary and more…
From witches to curses, hexs and trails, horror at its best in a good fashion, plenty to go around for everyone, a lot to read, see and listen. This is the summary of what old school, proto-Metal Fusion Rock starlets, Spellbook. Unravelling stories, times and places in their local area that weren't exactly public knowledge, in particular where witchcraft is concerned, the group released "Deadly Charms", providing their insight around the horrific mysteries in a plethora of vintage Metal type music. Steinmetal caught Nate Tyson for another chat about this new venture.
Eric Martin Band/Mr. Big
Eric Martin is an American singer, musician, and songwriter. His impressive musical resume is second to none, which includes the original voice of MR. BIG, preforming and recording with some of the biggest names in the industry, and playing live to millions all over the world, currently touring as Eric Martin Band with the incredibly talented lineup of: P J Farley (Trixter), Paul Pesco and Paul Hartless. He is part of Avantasia's latest album, released on October 21st. Metal Temple writer Fred Bonanno was privileged to see his band last week at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles, Illinois, and even more privileged to call Eric a personal friend, he has a great sense of humor and is one of the most genuine and grounded people I know. He was kind enough to sit down with me (after a lot of begging and pleading) and answer a few questions for Metal Temple.
Markus Ullrich & Troy Norr
Already can be referred as the harbingers of their own kind of horror, the multi-national group of wicked Metallers, Them, return with their undying character evil doer, but with good intentions, KK Fossor. Resurrected by a chemical spill, it is up the Fossor, and his companions, to put an end to the decedent of an ancient enemy, and the battleground, NYC of the 1980s. Steinmetal had a great pleasure to talk once again with the two artistic brainstormers, Markus Ullrich and Troy Norr about the next chapter in KK Fossor, and Them, titled "Fear City"
When there wasn't a need of change anywhere in the world? Our world is constantly changing, whether for the better, or for the worse. However, one things remain, while the tides are shifting so does the need for something new, a phenomenon that is not always healthy so to speak. After being ripped of the possibility to promote their previous record properly due to the pandemic, the British Thrash Metal zealots, Xentrix, return with a tougher message, a new record, "Seven Words". Steinmetal had the pleasure once again to have a chat with guitarist Kristian Havard about the happenings surrounding the album, the experience and more…
Dallas Toler Wade
NARCOTC WASTELAND is a death metal band formed in North Carolina by lead guitarist and vocalist Dallas Toler-Wade, after spending nearly nineteen years with NILE. Much of the bands songs are based on emotional issues plaguing today's society such as drug and alcohol abuse . Their second album "Delirium Tremens" on Megaforce records is scheduled for release early 2023. Metal Temple writer Fred Bonanno had the privilege to see the band live last weekend, and they are a high energy, unrelenting, riveting, and deafening band. The chemistry between the dual guitar players, Dallas and Edwin Rhone is impeccable. He sat down with Dallas (once his hearing came back) to ask a few questions.
Can the savior become the oppressor? It is possible that anyone can become an oppressor, no matter the intentions that are at heart, it is how the person is being perceived, by actions made. When an empire falls for another empire, who said that freedom is at hand, and in the stories of Terra Atlantica, maybe the answer lies within the technological universe of Atlantis. Tristan Harders, and the crew, return with another epos, continuing the previous chapter, relishing on the name of "Beyond The Borders", and there are many to be crossed. Steinmetal had the pleasure to pick Harder's mind about the new release.
On October 21st Herman Frank and David Reece will release their highly anticipated "Blood In Blood Out" on AFM. This album is full of surprises, and one will accept that they are not selling out, as martyrs burn. With hungry heart Michael Francisco spoke with Herman about the making of the album, the anecdotal lyrics, collaborating with David, and never to perform Accept songs Live. Fear no evil, fight the fear, and celebrate the victory!
Thomen Stauch & Kai Stringer
Nothing lasts forever, whether the good things or the bad. When it comes to the those that rule others, or the powered elements of our society, the story is the same. Empires, over the years these rose and fell, no matter the reasons. They could last for centuries, but their day comes eventually when they topple down. Embarking on their third run, crossing the Rubicon with exemplary melodic Heavy Metal, the Mentalist Metallers continue to amaze. This time with "Empires Falling". Steinmetal had again the pleasure to discuss the record with drummer Thomen Stauch and guitarist Kai Stringer.
Peter "Peavy" Wagner
The Age Of Reason and unity is upon us as Germany's soundchasers Rage have just released their new EP called "Spreading The Plague". These Refuge Avengers have been active for four decades fronted by the Perfect Man Peavy. Before the storm, Michael Francisco spoke with the solitary man about a pilgrim's path, the inspiration for "Ghosts", and his invisible horizons, with plans for a Deluxe Double Disc of "Secrets In A Weird World" due December. Discover the missing link or be trapped!
Oliver Nikolas Schmid
Every creation out there can be related as art, and that is an interesting say. Why? Because everything is in the eye of the beholder, every person with a different perception of the thing being looked at, or listened to. Now, if this piece of art is unique, maybe a mix of several elements or simply out of this world, so to speak, it will be sought. The German Metallers, Lacrimas Profundere, as it seems, never stop in their tracks, only continue to amaze. Following the release of their darkest offering, "How to Shroud Yourself with Night", there is a lot to talk about and to listen. Steinmetal had an amazing conversation with the charming creator, Oliver Nikolas Schmid, and he had quite a story to tell.
A time to take a different step, to pursue other paths in order to reach a common goal, all in the name of devotion, to keep the flame burning. That flame still burns, as it seems, and quite brightly, in the heart of the Swedish Heavy Metal band, Trial, but not just within their hearts but for plenty of Metalheads. After a crucial lineup change, a new future opened up for the Swedes, and part of it can be heard and felt on their new album, "Feed The Fire", released via Metal Blade Records. Steinmetal had the pleasure to talk with guitarist Alexander Ellström about the new guy in the band, the album's experience and more…
Those starborn brothers in Iron Savior continue their dark assault on the senses with their second hellish Re-recording on "Reforged - Ironbound". Each unchained cut is made of metal, unleashing the forces of rage. The crazy Michael Francisco spoke with Piet Sielck all about his sweet dreams, working with Kai - even when conditions were red, and his plans to follow-up "Skycrest" with more thought provoking Mettle and lyrics in 2023. Join the unification!
And there is more to it, it doesn't stop there. Being a dreamer, and a curious in nature, helps a lot to achieve what most people fear from, spending much time on something that might fall down the drain. Not in the case of Seven Sisters' Kyle McNeill, who formed his own baby, Phantom Spell. Taking on the proto-Metal years of the 70s, finding the favourites in progression, the "Immortal's Requiem" was created and released. Steinmetal had the pleasure to talk again with McNeill about the new project, the future and the personal journey.
Symphonic Metal band EMPRESS hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania were formed in 2018. Starting their career with a lot of enthusiasm and ideas, first singles came out quickly. After being halted by the pandemic, EMPRESS wasted no time to release their debut full-length album "Fateweaver" in August 2022. Since then, "Fateweaver" received rave reviews by the press and fans. A good reason for Metal Temple writer Thomas Kumke to talk vocalist Barbara Blackthorne about the band, the new album, Barbara's development as a vocalist, and many more topics.
On September 30th Diamond Head will release their newly Remastered Double Disc Version of "Lightning To The Nations" on Silver Lining Music, and it's electric, so play it loud! I have waited too long for these Diamond lights to shine on the streets of gold with a proper release of this "White Album" I Michael Francisco spoke with the not so sweet and innocent Brian Tatler all about this forthcoming 2CD, 3 LP, and I even mentioned the Metallica connection. We chatted about the 2020 Re-recordings, and the fine prints of darkness, as well, as their new bass player Paul Gaskin.
Losing an icon, a front, but the important thing is, a brother and a friend, has a magnitude. There were plenty of examples where bands just ceased to be, as to find a replacement was either not optional or impossible. The US Heavy Metallers, Trauma, recently lost their longstanding vocalist, Donny Hiller (R.I.P.), and things were uncertain. Nonetheless, after finding the right guy for the slot, along with the former's wishes, they continued. Releasing their new "Awakening" album, things gone darker and heavier. Steinmetal talked with drummer, Kris Gustofson, about the experience and remembrance.
Sometimes it is how one feels, nothing everything has to be complex, it can be the reach for the hook. Catchy songs in Metal music were always sort of part of the plan, these rounded up people, empowered them with strong lyrics and tough music that took them forward. Of course, being complex and over the charts with musicianship skills is rand, but to find the right path for a song that would stick, that is touch. Mark Zonder, a veteran drummer that saw a lot and his history is known, gathered up a few talented musicians to form A-Z. With a debut album out, Steinmetal had to find out about the new group, and talk shop about music.
GWENDYDD had an incredible year 2022 so far packed with highlights. The Bulgarian extreme Metal band signed with German Metal institution Drakkar Entertainment at the beginning of the year and then released their second album "Censored" in May 2022. They went on to a European tour supporting DARK TRANQUILITY and ENSIFERUM, before they did their ever first headlining tour through Europe. A short trip to Wacken summed up a very hectic year. Metal Temple writer Thomas Kumke talked with GWENDYDD about their journey with plenty of interesting stories.
It has been a pain to be isolation, closed up from the world, keeping it closer to family without the ability to head out there and do even the basics. The American Thrash Metal band, Hatriot, like many others, remained at their homes, while the pandemic was loose. Nevertheless, they didn't back down and unleashed all of their anguish into a new album, "The Vale Of Shadows", released by Massacre Records. Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's vocalist, Cody Souza, the son of, about the album's experience, goals and more.
Even when there are fragments of bad luck, here and there, nothing is bound to fail in the long run. The Finnish Metallers, Altaria, decided to return to the Metal scene after several years being disbanded. Nonetheless, they made their return when the world started to go crazy with a pandemic. After delays and postponed events, the reunion was made, playing and shows, signing with a new label, and also a new album, "Wisdom". Steinmetal talked about the new era of the band with the veteran Marko Pukklia.
Robby Thomas Welsh
Metal Temple writer Fred Bonanno recently spoke with Robby Thomas Walsh from the band PURPENDICULAR, the Irish singer started the band in 2007 originally as a DEEP PURPLE tribute act which then evolved and began to play original material. With the release of their third studio album in September 2022 "Human Mechanic" that features DEEP PURPLE drummer Ian Paice.
Hear the Heavy Metal Breakdown of the Reaper as Grave Digger drop the bomb with their latest Battle Cry - "Symbol Of Eternity". Hell is my Purgatory as I play these Knights Of The Cross' best release in a decade. With the heart of a warrior, I, Michael Francisco spoke to the Headbanging Man himself - Chris Boltendahl - about his forthcoming Solo album, the anecdotal exhumation of "Storming The Brain", the more commercial aspects of Digger, and being healed by Metal. Celebrate this Symphony Of Death as we go back to the roots!
Because it is true, it is mighty, it is strong and it is Metal. Not one of the most original lines, but what the heart feels is much meaningful than anything else, no question about that. To be inspired of what lives inside, that is major. Talking with Dan Luna, guitarist of the US Power Metal band, Resistance, shows that the flame is strong, alive and breathing well. It is ageless. Coming with a new album, "Skulls Of My Enemy", through Pure Steel Records, there is an attack on the way and it is bound to be listened to. Steinmetal had a good chat about the album, the experience, new people and more…
When enough is enough, better to just let it all out and let everyone face what has been buried deep down. Sure, there is a way to express anything that aches the heart, but why not write about instead of doing something that is considered harsh right? Being struck by the wave Covid, things went to a halt for the DeVicious camp, like all the world of culture worldwide. The new release of "Black Heart" sums up a tough period for the band and a great platform where all that ached was unleashed. Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's Alex Frey about it all.
Angela Di Vincenzo & The Band
Melodic Metal band SECRET RULE has been a mainstay in the Italian Metal scene during the last few years. Being formed by Andy Menarini and Angela di Vincenzo in 2014, they released eight albums in eight years. "The Resilient" has been released in July 2022, just on time for the European tour with SEMBLANT. Metal Temple writer Thomas Kumke was lucky to talk with the whole band about touring, the new album, and SECRET RULE chose Metal Temple to make an important announcement….
Circle Of Silence
It hasn't been easy for the German Power Metal band, Circle Of Silence. Losing their bass player, Björn Boehm, just recently (R.I.P), hasn't been easy. Boehm was one of the band's influential songwriters and a prominent member that his magnitude was felt. Nonetheless, it was important to continue his legacy and the band's new album, "Walk Through Hell", is an evidence to one's life's work. Steinmetal had the pleasure to explore Boehm's important to the band, along with info on the album's dark nature and more, with Christian Sommerfeld, that had a lot to tell about the experience.
The Heretic Order
It is about the nature of the soundtrack, the testament of the sound, the power of the heaviness, and of course, the darkness within. With each story, each song to be exact, there is a pure reflection on reality, upon its darkened nature. Things aren't right, there is a general feeling that destruction is imminent, and only time will tell. The Heretic Disorder, one of the legions of the darkened art between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, fulfil yet another vision with the release of "III". Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's Danny Felice, about the new album, what is going on in the world and even aliens.
New beginnings, new opportunities, searching for better ways to express one's self can be quite challenging, and through the extreme form of music, freedom can be achieved. Of course, it is always dependent on the person. Starting a new journey of extremity, another formation of the Black Metal hand, there is the newcomer, Devil's Tail. Essentially a one-man show, which has evolved to a duo and now even preparing its live version, recently issued its debut album, "Desolation". Steinmetal had a good talk with Erik Bäck, the one behind the riffs, about the experience of creating a new band, a new album and more…
Andreas "Gerre" Geremia
For 4 Decades Frankfurt's Beerbarians known as Tankard have been true to their Metaltometal chemical invasion. Now considering themselves Pavlov's Dawgs, stone cold sober, and poised to release their newest and best in well over a decade, these ex-fluencers of the Metal Cash Machine, with one foot in the grave, endure for a thousand beers. Michael Francisco spoke with Gerre - The King Of Beer- all about the new album and its superb production, their new label, Touring plans, and his profession as a Social Worker. If you thirst for the meaning of life, have a listen, and indulge!
Consequences, consequences, there are plenty of examples throughout history where people never did really care about what would happen if, and this is referred to life changing events. Returning from the cold with their brand new album, "Inhuman Spirits", the Swedish Melodic Death / Thrash Metallers, Darkane, left no doubt about their musical heritage or their knack to blast through brainwaves. Channeling aggression, along with a pure sense of Swedish melody, Darkane delivered a mighty proof that they still have it. Steinmetal had a good talk with the veteran Christofer Malmström about the new album, the return and more…
Patriarchs In Black
Just to play the music the one likes and adores. Sometimes there are those that forget that every artist out there is influenced and just simply likes to tag along with foundation that made him start everything from scratch. When ex-Hades guitarist Dan Lorenzo started his collaboration with the mighty busy bee drummer, Johnny Kelly (also fondly remembered as Type-O-Negative's skinman), it worked like a charm and Patriarchs In Black started out. Recently, the duo unleashed their debut album "Reach For The Scars", signed to the German MDD Records. With Black Sabbath as their chief influence, things turned out to be punchy. Steinmetal had to find out more from Mr. Lorenzo.
In order to find a way out of reality, there is nothing better than finding that way in order to leave it behind, or at least dormant. Escapism is the way to do it, and if there is Sci-Fi involved, there is a lot to explore. It wasn't the first time that Steinmetal and Nightbearer's Dominik Hellmuth had a chat about the philosophy and musical experience in relation to the band. Now, with the release of the band's new album, "Ghosts Of A Darkness To Come", shows an even deeper meaning, and experience that is the next step of old school Death Metal.
In every dark patch, there is a source of light, in every sadness there is hope. If there is a thing that Metal music hasn't been associated with optimism but rather showing that life isn't so pretty as the Pop culture show. Nevertheless, even Metal music can show that things within the black, or beyond the Grey, might not be that bleak. The newly founded Italian / Austrian cooperation of Fallen Sanctuary, and their debut album, "Terranova", show that there is brightness, something to aspire to. Steinmetal had a talk with guitarist / vocalist, Marco Pastorino, about his partnership with Serenity's Georg Neuhauser, the band's spiritual healing and more…
Simplicity loves company, and fans will rejoice. To be proficient and technical in knowledge and ability isn't everything, it is how a song that one writes is built and how it inspires. Old school Metal will never change its ways, apart from the modern edge that always seeks the next best thing in line to capture attention. It was already proved that the former will continue to expand and become relevant again, and the existence and activity of the German Thrash Metallers, Protector is one of many sources of evidence. Releasing their new "Excessive Outburst Of Depravity", there is old school for everyone and brutal. Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's longstanding vocalist, Martin Missy, about the album and the old school spirit.
