Divine Power Flowing

Unchosen Ones

This is certainly food for those Metalheads who like their music in bitesize chunks, ready for immediate consummation. I state this because the Melodic Heavy/Power Metal is as accessible as an open door, has no secrets or hidden layers to expose.

UNCHOSEN ONES are from a place called Vigo, which is in the Galicia region of Spain. They have been active since 2020, and with "Divine Power Flowing" they are presenting their second studio album. I for one had never heard of the band before now, so I haven't heard their 2023 debut album "Sorrow Turns To Dust". So, from the band forming and starting to releasing their debut album took roughly three years. Now we go from the debut to this, their sophomore album, and again it took another three years. I do wonder if they're going to keep up this schedule. What UNCHOSEN ONES play musically is Melodic Heavy/Power Metal with some Heavy Rock influences linked in. And they do that in a way that works.

This is certainly food for those Metalheads who like their music in bitesize chunks, ready for immediate consummation. I state this because the Melodic Heavy/Power Metal is as accessible as an open door, has no secrets or hidden layers to expose. If you're not into this from the first listen, you probably won't get into it at a later moment. That doesn't mean that the musicians are doing anything wrong. They are very good at what they do, and do it with great distinction, and probably with a great deal of pleasure. Because whatever I think of "Divine Power Flowing", there is no escaping the fact that UNCHOSEN ONES have delivered a very positive sounding album with this one. If what you hear here puts you in a sour or bad mood, you're not getting the vibe, that's for sure.

You will not hear anything new passing you by. It all has been done before. Sometimes better, but also definitely a lot worse as well. At least the compositions on "Divine Power Flowing" are all of a good standard. But to me it all becomes a bit too nice and easy, it's just feels a bit childish for me. And I understand and accept that a lot of our readers do like to go for that, and it is their given right to feel that way. Like I said, this isn't bad at all, it just doesn't reach me in a way I was hoping for, for which I apologise. Especially to UNCHOSEN ONES themselves, as they have tried their best to provide us with some good music. And they may have succeeded in your opinion. Just not in mine.
