The collapse of society prophesied by many writers (and Metal acts) lays on a simple vision: the struggles between the lust for money and power of mega businessmen (always supported by politicians and laws) and the need of people. As long as we are still debating about human rights that were to be settled on all the countries (it means that we are terrible late), things are becoming far from the point of no return. And no, the speech of leaders as Trump, Bolsonaro, Milei, and others conservative/fascist ones doesn’t make sense in the views of people’s need (hate speech doesn’t solve problems, just make them worse). And in such point of view the North American trio PYRRHIC SALVATION on “When Society Crumbles”.
Here is an EP that presents to the fans a form of Technical Death Metal respecting the models of North American Death Metal School, but with some different elements (as the contrasts between screamed tunes of the vocals and death growls). It’s obvious that the band uses a very good technical insight under the violent and storming outfit of its music. But paying attention, elements of classic Death Metal and Grindcore can be heard on the songs (as some subjective melodic tack, as heard on “When Society Crumbles Part I: Infrastructures”), so it means that the trio has too much potential to be turned into music - what’s not being done by now - but future seems to be great as they evolve. The sonority is that filthy and ‘dry’ model usual for some Technical Death Metal bands (pay attention to the sonority of the snare drums), to privilege of the understand of technical outfit of the songs. It’s a good strategy, but sometimes (as in the case of this EP), it gives the right outfit. Again: it’s not bad, but the band’s music deserves more.
The trilogy “When Society Crumbles” (composed of “Part I: Infrastructures”, “Part II: Insight”, and “Part III: Inferiority Complexed”) are all filed with complex arrangements and charming technical, but one song ‘connects’ with the other forming a whole concept. And “Every Last Soul Unmade” follows the same tendency of the others, but with an evident touch of classic Death Metal in some moments.
Again: the name of PYRRHIC SALVATION is to be followed with care and attention by Technical Death Metal fans, and even needing more maturing, they created a good work on “When Society Crumbles”.
