Mork Gryning – Fasomas Tid
September 24, 2024
“Fasomas Tid” is a genre-bending album that stays in the Extreme category, effortlessly mixing the best of what that has to offer fans, but also throws in some surprises in the form of clean vocals and even some melody. The result is an album that is very well rounded.

Seeds of Mary – Love
September 6, 2024
The Alternative elements slightly outweigh the Progressive ones, but there are other more subtle things going on as well, like some Punk influence and Psychedelica. One thing that you can’t fault the band for is their grand sense of adventure. Admittedly, this album is very hard to pigeon hole, therefore it will appeal to a wide variety of music fans.

Gaerea – Coma
August 2, 2024
This was a fantastic album, combining traditional Black Metal elements with tones of sadness and despair. Subtle melody lines run throughout the album, adding depth and contrast to the intense and atmospheric sound, while the theme of hope hangs in the balance. GAEREA are back and ready to conquer the world.

1349 – The Wolf and the King
July 25, 2024
This isn’t a bad album by any stretch, but it’s about what the listener might expect from the band…staying in their lane, and not taking too many chances. I admire that, but at the same time, would also love to hear some more experimentation. They have a lot of talent, which they should use to push themselves a bit more.
review
GraveNoire – Devant La Porte Des Etoiles
July 14, 2024
This was a solid release, though I had hoped for just a couple more songs. Though it does have an aggressive, contentious sound, it isn’t overly grating, and the listener is treated to and expansive sound that you don’t always get with Black Metal.
review
Kingcrow – Hopium
June 28, 2024
The album just failed to excite me, plain and simple. Every song was very melancholy, and that stood out even over some Progressive elements. For me, it was the vocal style that kept things from really progressing. Diego has a tender voice with great control, but nearly every song was sung in the same range. It might have been the band’s failure to convince me that led to my perceived downfall.

Black Lava – The Savage Winds of Wisdom
June 15, 2024
This was a fantastic album, with a highly polished combination of technical elements, heavy weight, and an equal dose of harrowing elements you associate with Black Metal. It’s all wrapped up in a package that is so tight, you couldn’t squeeze in between the layers if you were as thin as paper.

Anciients – Beyond the Reach of the Sun
June 10, 2024
Overall, what strikes me most about the album, besides the fantastic musicianship, is the band’s sense of unwavering confidence. Every note seems calculated, and each track interconnected, but yet the album breathes, and deeply. This is indeed a new pinnacle of Progressive Metal, and the band carries that flag high.
review
DVRK – Infinite Reminiscence
May 21, 2024
Listening to the album, you can clearly understand why the songs are so short, because the band packs in the sound so tight and dense, and they pour in a century of hate into each composition. This music is not for the faint of heart.
review
Black Tusk – The Way Forward
May 19, 2024
Their brand of Sludge-mashed Punk is commanding, energetic, and compelling. You can’t not want to break things while listening to the album.
review
SYK – eartHFlesh
March 19, 2024
I haven’t heard an album that is this punishing, but also as intelligent as it is. Much of the album is reflective of formidable and burdensome guitar rhythms, and the band melds these bloody and raw abstract shapes into energetic omnipotence, with the hands of a skilled alchemist. This has to be a contender for “album of the year.”
review
Night Shall Drape Us – Lunatic Choir
February 26, 2024
It’s safe to say that I am disappointed with the album. A band with this level of talent and signed to a major record label should be forging new paths in the genre, and believe me, there is plenty of room out there for that. Instead, they go with what is comfortable and perhaps what they believe their fans will want to hear.
review
Sylvaine – Eg Er Framand
February 16, 2024
The fact that the vocals are sung in her native language only adds to the mystery of the album. I honestly don’t want the lyrical translation into English. Kathrine’s vocals are elegant, sublime, and pure artistry, and for an album with so little sonority, its impact can be felt for miles away.
review
Darkspace – Darkspace II
February 3, 2024
Perhaps the best part was all of the layers that the band added, each one piling on top of the listener like another weight on your psyche, until you crack because you just can’t take it anymore. Take a journey to the places you never wanted to visit with “Darkspace II.”
review
Alkaloid - Numen
November 25, 2023
These tracks are too dense for a double album and the entire second disc just doesn’t measure up to the standard set by the first disc. If you have this album on your radar or in your backlog it would be best if you skipped disc two altogether.
review
Wormhole – Almost Human
November 23, 2023
The songs are very short, because they are jam packed with material so dense, they would seem unbreakable. The gutturals are deep, their Death Metal sound is rich, and they toy with meter changes like a genius assigned a menial task.
review
Psygnosis – Mercury
November 21, 2023
Obviously skilled, they show a maturity in songwriting ability that doesn’t come around every day. I found the album to be mysterious, intriguing, and right in my wheelhouse.
review
Strigoi – Bathed in a Black Sun
November 21, 2023
For me, the best part was that rumbling bass. Although I enjoyed what I heard, I feel the band is capable of more. That first song was a banger…if they can keep that up, they are onto something.
review
Impure Wilhelmina – Dead Decades
November 19, 2023
Talk about a band that is hard to pigeon hole…and this is one for sure. At its core, it is a tale of competing sounds, and the band never fully lets either side win.
