Killjoy – Dream and Violence
July 7, 2025
Personally, I’d count this as a demo.

Alfa Pentatonik – Gamma II
July 7, 2025
This was a solid EP. Through five songs, they band presents a firm weight with the music and vocals, but also some playful electronics. The album is well balanced in that regard. My interest in the band was piqued through five cuts, and I look forward to hearing a long play from here.

review
Hemelbestormer – The Radiant Vale
July 5, 2025
This was a positively doomed album that reveled in tones of grey, black, and stank of death…that cancerous smell is something you can never get out of your nostrils. They displayed a life of loneliness, hopelessness, and regret, to which there is no going back.
review
Sigorsped – Everlasting Wisdom of the Ancients
July 2, 2025
This wasn’t a bad album by any means, but too many of the songs just sounded similar, and the band didn’t push themselves any further from the FWOBM bands that started things off.

Chamber of Mirrors – Tales of Blood
July 2, 2025
If you are a fan of old school, FWOBM inspired Black Metal, this album is for you. It is intense, raging, and uncompromising. For those of us who aren’t rooted in the traditions of the genre however, this album might not be for you.
review
Endless Dismal Moan – Lord of Nightmare
July 1, 2025
It played (and prayed) on the listener’s fears by bringing them to life in front of your eyes, leaving little to the imagination. It’s a black hole…a blood stained room that you can only see with a blacklight…and a face so ugly, it could turn you to stone.

review
Mystopera – Das Lied Der Steinernen Engel
June 30, 2025
An epic adventure of the Pagan Viking sort with a sea voyage, lots of fighting and maybe a funeral, then more sea voyaging and even more fighting follow by something about honor and death and then maybe some furious vengeance and some sort of heroic ending.

Turian - Blood Quantum Blues
June 30, 2025
What the hell am I listening to right now? Yes, I know it is a band called TURIAN, a Seattle band that makes Metal Hardcore mixed with Noise Rock. I also know that “Blood Quantum Blues” is their fourth release, and according to their Bandcamp site the first one where they really feel free.

A legacy not forgotten, the path continues for Fairyland, this album celebrates the career and life of their founder yet the story of the band is still unwritten and the story remains.
review
Gruesome – Silent Echoes
June 30, 2025
GRUESOME deliver a masterclass in progressive and technical Death Metal. “Silent Echoes” is flesh-ripping and aggressive Death Metal at insane pace, smartly combined with melodic and progressive elements at slower pace
review
Akouphenom – Connections to the Eternal Erebus
June 26, 2025
This was an album with a lot to offer the listener. The first two songs were very dark amalgams of Black and Death Metal, with deep elements of Doom, but the final two songs took on a whole different meaning. I was captivated by the album as whole, and found that there are many secrets buried within. Come try to unearth them with a listen of “Connections to the Eternal Erebus.”

Abigal Williams – A Void Within Existence
June 26, 2025
Black metal has always lived in extremes—fury unleashed through blast beats, scorched earth tremolo picking, and vocals that sound like they were torn from the void. But, the finest albums in the genre do more than burn; they carve. This latest release is no exception. It’s a study in strength through precision, aggression shaped by intent, and rage that carries a refined edge. This record stands out by finding a balance within the chaos. It’s aggressive without being mindless, intricate without being pretentious, and melodic without ever compromising its bleak core. This is black metal with teeth—but also with a mind. A storm, but one that knows exactly where it’s going.

Mjolne – Through Veils of Time
June 25, 2025
Although I was expecting a FWOBM sound, I was pleasantly surprised by the modern sound while still keeping one of their feet planted in 90’s Norwegian Black Metal. The album was excellently composed, and it’s beyond amazing to consider that all of this was done by one person. All Black Metal fans will enjoy this, and Mjolne will also win over some new ones, like me.

Phantomy - From the Wild
June 25, 2025
If you are looking for a good time and feel good record you can do a lot worse than trying out PHANTOMY, as “From the Wild” will have you dancing, twisting and turning in no time. So, you will have a smile on your face before you know it.

Front Row Warriors - Running Out Of Time
June 25, 2025
The slower songs on “Running Out Of Time” are all okay, but the faster ones are the real stars for me. That is also where singer Elkie Gee gets to show off her wares, where she is able to combine her singing with what almost sounds like shouting, but which is done in such a way that it demonstrates how powerful her voice really is.
review
EchoSoul - Time of the Dragon
June 25, 2025
You have the best of both worlds, you have the elements of American Power Metal with the technical wizardry of American Progressive Metal. This is easily of the best albums of the year, both from a musical and a lyrical standpoint.

Autumn Lies Buried – Mob Mentality
June 24, 2025
I identify strongly with their message, and it’s nice to see that there are fellow people out there who want to burn down the establishment. The music was strong as well, but just some pinches of more variation would have made the album stronger.
review
Cromlech – Of Owls and Eels
June 23, 2025
A journey through shadow, memory, and dream, indeed. For me, it was more like a journey through shadows and nightmares, and the way Impurus brought them to light was noteworthy. It’s another example of Black Metal composed outside of the boxes of convention and tradition.
review
Mystic Circle – Kriegsgotter MMXXV
June 23, 2025
The album is a varied testament to the band’s longevity. They could have taken the easy way out, and just presented another tribute to the FWOBM, but these guys are crafty, and they have managed to stay out of the weeds than ensnare many of their peers.
