"Doom isn’t just a genre, it’s an approach to music." – Stefano Fiorelli, WARCOE
October 7, 2025
WARCOE hails from Pesaro, Italy. Formed in 2021, following the year of our plague, the Doom trio has been blazing a trail through the Italian Doom scene with one monumental album after the other. On September 26, 2025 they released their third full-length album, “Upon Tall Thrones,” which not only weighed in at 8/10 on the Metal Temple scales but hit #1 on Doom Charts for September 2025. This month Gary Hernandez, writer and editor for Metal Temple, was able to catch up with Stefano Fiorelli (guitars, vocals) to discuss the origin story of WARCOE, details of their latest album, and even speculate on the impacts of AI and streaming platforms.

Hydra Vein - Perpetual Violence Machine
September 17, 2025
The songs on “Perpetual Violence Machine” will have you participating for as far as your brain, but most of all your body, allows you. It has that kind of magnetism that makes what HYDRA VEIN plays sound and feel almost addictive, but most of all that good that you are wondering why they stopped at making just an EP.
review
Argesk – Moonlight Pyromancy
September 14, 2025
I found the band’s use of aggression to be every bit as strong as their sense of melody, and not a lot of albums achieve that balance. Each time you may have though they were leading you into the abyss, a welcomed hand grabbed you and pulled you back. This is a Black Metal album for those who like melody in addition to fury.
review
Perishing – Malicious Acropolis Unveiled
September 1, 2025
This wasn’t a bad album by any stretch of the imagination, it just failed to launch from the pad it was grounded on. It relied too much on past formulas and didn’t really offer anything new to the genre. I would encourage the band to take more chances next time.
review
Crypt Monarch - Codex Pestilentia
August 21, 2025

review
Concrete Age - Awaken the Gods
June 18, 2025
This album really made me feel like I was in Middle Earth, like I was on another planet or in another surreal world full of mysticism and fantasy. This album is packed with great Russian folk music and ambiance and brings some pretty big chills.

The Wildhearts – Satanic Rites of The Wildhearts
April 11, 2025
I must admit not venturing into this type of music much, but I wanted to push myself to listen to other styles, and “Satanic Rites of The Wildhearts” surprised me. They have a commanding presence in their songwriting, and play with absolute confidence. They probably don’t care if you vibe with them or not. Their style is fairly unique…they can sting you with the bite of Metal but choose more often to adorn you in their melodies, and some of the melodies are glorious

JARL does not disappoint with Trümmerfestung. Solid 8’s all the way around for this hammer blow of ruthless Black Metal.
review
Pandemic - Phantoms
December 15, 2024
“Phantoms” is a blast. There’s a bit of nod to early Thrash with a Hardcore Punk overlay, but the Blackened element took it over the top for me.
review
Satan - Songs in Crimson
October 15, 2024
But I can hear in the sound of the guitars that SATAN is smiling. He is seeing that the world is going down fast, and that his kingdom and reign is about to take hold. That might explain why the riffs on “Songs In Crimson” sound less menacing than they usually do, instead they sound more upbeat.
review
Ulvehunger – Retaliation
September 18, 2024
What started off as a promising album in terms of some unusual elements eventually descended into another Black Metal album that didn’t provide any distance between itself and thousands of other albums in the genre. That was disappointing to me.
review
Magistraal - Fantoom van de Deemsterburcht
July 17, 2024
The wild drums, depraved vocals, and just the right use of melody make the experience raw and as haunted as it is haunting. It’s one of those black metal albums that has moments of surprising beauty even in utter darkness.

Bull Elephant – The Long War
December 7, 2023
At its core it was Doom, but they band refused to be held by the sometimes narrow borders that define the genre. Instead, they expanded out into uncharted territory, The album was engaging, and the musicianship strong. The production was right where it should be, and this is an example of high quality Doom Metal.
review
Malokarpatan - Vertumnus Caesar
November 25, 2023
MALOKARPATAN has a rougher edge and more black metal influence, but the riffs and keyboard work are reminiscent of HORISONT’s best work. This album is one for the more adventurous metal aficionados because their sound is unique and familiar at the same time.
review
Glacier Eater – Tempest
November 23, 2023
