Bloodstained Rebellion
Wrath of Belial
When you want to play a specific Metal genre, you must keep clearly in your mind one thing: it matters a lot the way your musical work sounds. I say that because some people don't want to create something really new, and just want to play the music in the way they want. But you must sound as yourself, not like any other band. It's a lesson that the Danish quintet WRATH OF BELIAL seems to comprehend and apply, for what we hear on their album "Bloodstained Rebellion" is really very good.
Playing in a Death Metal way like those from bands of the first half of the 90s, and bearing a clear influence from German Thrash Metal School, but in their bitter and brutal form, they find place to use some melodies that fits perfectly on their musical work. It's an amazing thing you must know that. And it's filled with hooks and an aggressive energy that flows from all the songs. They will remind you of some aspects of earlier Melodic Death Metal from Finland, but they have their identity, so, be prepared. The sound quality of "Bloodstained Rebellion" is really very good. They reached a great level of musical weight, with very good tunes for each musical instrument, but the balance between sound clarity, aggressiveness and brutality is in a very good way. It's not perfect, but very good, indeed.
They have some good technical moments (as we can hear on "Aftermath of a Tyrant"), and all their songs are very good. But the beautiful melodies that shapes "Traitors" (with excellent guitars), the excellent rhythmic work from bass guitar and drums on "Mirror Fiend" (very good tempos and there's some Thrash Metal elements here), the technical arrangements and excellent vocals of "Aftermath of a Tyrant" (fine variations of rhythm, great work from guitars as the vocals exhibit an ample range of aggressive tunes), the bitter slow tempos and fine melodic lines shown on "Set Sails tor the End of the World" and on "With Hell Assured", the excellent guitar riffs and duets of "Battle Born", the Thrash/Death Metal mix with fine harmonies and tons of energy shown on "Six Feet Under Pandora", and the brutal and bitter slow grasp of "Next Chapter of Enslavement" can be said as their finest moments.
They are still young, but their music has potential, and the future seems to be great for WRATH OF BELIAL. "Bloodstained Rebellion" is a fine beginning.
