Even trying to do something that sounds old fashioned, some bands can't hide their modern influences. It's a matter of logic, because all musicians hear a lot of musical genres, even in an involuntary way. So it's not so strange to hear some different musical ideas permeating "The Devil Inherits the World", this album from WHITEMOUR. Basically, they are a Death Metal band with influences from Old School vein of the genre, that same one from that is heard on the British Death Metal way, like BOLT THROWER and BENEDICTION. But some bits of Groove Metal and even from Death 'n' Roll can be heard on their music. So it's a hybrid form of music, created with some good melodies in many points and tons of abrasive energy. Yes, it's a very good work, and not so usual to hear in the way the band does.

To build a sound quality for such form of music demands a lot of efforts in the studio. But the producer did a good work, giving the songs the right amounts of weight, aggressiveness and clarity. Obviously some efforts can be done on the next time to find better instrumental tunes, for they are more crude than the needed, but it's not a great problem for now. Musically, the band presents 10 good songs ("Deathlike Silence" is just an intro), and besides nothing new at all is presented to the listener, it's good and deserves a spin on the CD player. But "Voice of the Fallen" with its good rhythmic shifts and brutal grasp imposed by the guitars, the British Old School Death Metal essence of "Wrath" (especially heard on the work from bass guitar and drums), the mix between Death Metal influences and Death 'n' Roll harmonies of "Aileen", the bitter slow tempos of "Malefica" (which allows a good work from the vocals), and the clear references to the 90s way heard on "Blackheart Deathride" can be pointed as the album's best moments.

It's a good album of a promising name, so listen to "The Devil Inherits the World" and be sure that a good time is waiting for you.
