White Magician - Dealers of Divinity album cover

Today, many people seem to be tired of modern Metal experimentalisms and the digital devices. There's nothing wrong with that, but more and more bands are looking for an organic and more traditional approach to make music. But some seems to be trying to improve things in some ways, as the North American quartet WHITE MAGICIAN, as can be heard on "Dealers of Divinity".

The Detroit Rock City rockers comes with a form of traditional Heavy Metal with Hard Rock touches that is influenced by the ancients from the 70's as BLACK SABBATH, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT and others, but with a modern outfit on the sonority of the musical instruments. It seems the music is energetic, melodically hooking, but in a modern and expressive form.

The key for such approach is on the Production the band recorded in the simplest way possible, like in a 'plug 'n' play' way, without endless digital editions or overdubs. But they used the modern technologies to record, it's clear to the ears, in a very good work done by the hands of George Szegedy (production, mixing). It could be a bit better, but it's good as it's presented.

Their efforts are shown on seven very good songs, and to have a better idea of what they're up to, pay attention to the organic vibe of "Dealers of Divinity" (very good guitars' arrangements), the catchy melodies of "Mad Magic II: In the Absence of Gods (Bad Magic)" (the simple vocals and tempos are always a great strategy), the Rock/Hard Rock feeling from "Magia Nostra" (good rhythmic conductions from bass guitar and drums) and of "Spectre of a Dying Flame" (excellent melodies). These ones can hook even the dead.

Of course "Dealers of Divinity" isn't a perfect album at all, but it points that WHITE MAGICIAN still has some tricks to show to their fans.
