Warfect - Scavengers album cover

Sometimes a band has to face hard trials to evolve their music into something that can stand time and erosion caused by the use of old musical formulas. But there are bands that seem to want to obey every line written in the recipes created long time ago. Unfortunately, that is the case of the Swedish trio WARFECT, because their album, "Scavengers," is filled with clichés. Ok, Big Daddy here admits that to create a new Metal style is a trial from names such as BLACK SABBATH and METALLICA, but everyone knows that you must have a personality, the fundamental tool that allows a band to survive and create a musical work that is different from others. Sorry, but this formula of Thrash/Death Metal that WARFECT is using has been heard many times in the past. It's fast, brutal and aggressive, but how many bands have we heard that do a similar thing in this away?

They have potential, but they are too much alike many other bands we heard before. The album's producer was Fredrik Wester with his band colleagues, and the sound quality is good for what they play. Every technical detail of their musical work is evident, so there aren't difficulties understanding what they are playing. But some instrumental tunes could be better (they could be more aggressive). I'll repeat what I wrote above: they have musical talent, but they must cultivate their musical personality, and turn away from models that have already eroded from time and use. For now, songs as "Purveyors of Cadavers" (with good guitars and musical technique), the fast and aggressive "Reptile", "Watchtowers" with its slow tempos and good melodies, "Predators" with its brutal tempo changes, the bitter "The Resurrectionists" with its fine slow tempos (where vocals and drums are in a very good shape, indeed), and "Savaged by Wolves" is proof of a band with a great potential, but that becomes lost inside such flood of clichés. Dare and win, and hope in the near future WARFECT can show what are really can do.
