State Of Unrest
Violent Revolution
Thrash Metal and Crossover are two Metal styles from the 80s. Obviously, you're not forbidden to play such styles in the current times we occupy, but you must do something of your own, different from what was already done in the past. To be honest, saying that you don't want to do something new is the greater fallacy of our days. You must, because you can't express yourself as other musicians. You aren't Danny Lilker, James Hetfield of Dave Mustaine, you are yourself! Having this in mind, we can understand the North American quartet VIOLENT REVOLUTION and their first work, their album "State of Unrest".
The band is not bad, and they have potential. But at the same time, their musical work is filled with many clichés, and the musical influences of the band are too clear. Their songs expel great amounts of raw and aggressive energy, and they have very good choruses and good arrangements as well. So, with the positive and negative points at hand, we can say that their work is good. The sound quality of the album is good. It tries to keep that same spirit of the recordings of the 80s, but without trying to copy that sonority. No, they sound clear and aggressive, with the due level of weight that their songs deserve to have.
Even with the clichés, songs as the brutal and fast "Violent Revolution", the good guitar riffs of "Damaged", the rhythmic lines of "State of Unrest", the technical touch heard on "All Hail", and the Hardcore brutal influence on "Sudden Death".
"State of Unrest" is a good work, but they can do better than we hear on the album. By the way: the bassist George Robb (former bass player from AGENT STEEL, DÉTENTE, and others) left the band after the album's release, and he was replaced by Jeremiah Larson.
