Tyranny - Aeons In Tectonic Interment album cover

There are some times when some of our conceptions are really tried on the fire of need. Yes, the need to comprehend and accept some strange works that we have to hear as time passes. Bands of the so called Funeral Doom Metal are really a trial, in the sense that when you hear those songs slower than a funeral march, with that oppressive insight, and I really hope that people with severe mental illness (those who have depression or suicidal tendencies) must stay away from it. No, I'm not telling that Metal is something evil, but to a disturbed mind, even a lullaby is an excuse to commit suicide. But some bands are really very depressive, as the Finnish duo TYRANNY, that is releasing their second album, "Aeons in Tectonic Interment".

Using an intense and somewhat dirty sound quality to create a deeper and depressive atmosphere into a chaotic and funereal pattern of making music; slower, bitter and aggressive when the music needs, with guttural grunts arise from a mass of slow tempos and distorted guitars. And for the fans of the style, it's a rare finding, of course. It reminds me something that MY DYING BRIDE had done on their earlier works, when their Death Metal side was more evident.

But of course they are not using that "poor" technical approach on the album; they are doing their music with the technical approach needed for that, so there are no complains or critics about it.

Their five long songs are enough to cause heart attacks on those fans of the style, but I truly believe that "A Voice Given Unto Ruin" (with very good drumming and fine keyboards' use), and "Bells of the Black Basilica" and their best moments. Their musical work and this manifest is good as a whole unit, so, enjoy it!

A fine and decent album for the style.
