As Death Metal evolved in the foundations launched by DEATH, HELLHAMMER, POSSESSED, DEATHSTRIKE and others, on the 90's things evolved a lot, creating the subgenres that everyone knows. Obviously, some works can be a loss of time and don't deserve to be heard, others are excellent and relevant, and some still need to fight for a better shape. The last one is the case of the UK based trio TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE, because "A Resting Place for the Wrathful" shows a good work, but that needs to mature a bit more.

It's a Brutal Death Metal album that deals with a very good technical level, with very low grunts (that contrast with some high-pitched screams), low tuned guitars, and a solid (and technical) bass guitar and drums works. But unfortunately, all the good features of their music show a band that needs to show what the members have in their souls, because the songs reminds a lot other bands' work. It's good, indeed, but not with the trio's personality.

The recordings resulted in a very good and clean sound quality, that keep the brutality and aggressiveness of their music, but in a way that can be understood easily by the listeners. The use of defined instrumental tunes (even with such low tuned load) works perfectly for the songs.

The problem of the trio is to try to be themselves, because all the songs reflects what everyone already heard before from other names, especially from SUFFOCATION and CANNIBAL CORPSE (especially during Chris Barnes age). Of course that some very good ideas can be heard on "A Resting Place for the Wrathful" (the drums brutal technique is really amazing), "Apotropaic Scarification" (very good guitar riffs), the slow paced tempo parts of "A Witness to Ruination" and on "Promulgation of Infected Innards", but their potential is extremely evident to lay doing only what is heard on the album.

TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE is a good band, and really can do way better than is heard on "A Resting Place for the Wrathful". Personally (what as I writer is not so usual for me to write on a review), I really believe that these UK butchers can do better and release an immense butchery on the genre.
