Trillium - Tectonic album cover

To play Metal becomes an addiction to some musicians throughout the years. Even for those we know for previous guest appearances on Metal bands' albums. It seems to be the case of Amanda Somerville, the North American singer who worked previously with AVANTASIA, EPICA and KAMELOT as a live musician. Her band, the Dutch quintet TRILLIUM, is finally releasing their second album, "Tectonic".

Well, they are classified as a Symphonic Metal band, but I would call the just a Heavy Metal band with a symphonic insight in some moments. Chose the label you want, but I must say that their work is really heavy and filled with excellent melodies, and an elegant insight that is shown both on their heavier moments and on those silky ones. Let me tell: it's truly good, with such energy and passion that will seduce the listener easily. Comparisons with other names are not useful; it would only make a mess, so the best for you is to hear "Tectonic" for yourself. The hands of Sander Gommans and Amanda Somerville are the ones who sign the album's production (Sander made the mixing as well, and Jos Driessen worked on the mastering). So the sound quality is really excellent, clean and heavy in the due proportions, abrasive and silky in the right moments, and the choice of the instrumental tunes was done in a wise way. What I mean: an excellent sound quality waits for your ears.

The strong and melodic "Time to Shine" with its excellent vocals, the technical and heavier approach used on "Stand Up", the abrasive and modern parts of "Full Speed Ahead" (very good guitar riffs are presented here), the contrast between tender parts with heavier ones on "Hit Me" (an accessible song, with a powerful work from bass guitar and drums), the charming melodies of "Nocturna" (with fine keyboards parts), and the excellent "Shards" can be said as "Tectonic" best songs, besides all of them are really very good. TRILLIUM is a talented band, and "Tectonic" will take them to a higher level than they are now. It's their time to shine.
