We Are Satan’s People
Transport League
There are moments when definitions given by the genres’ labels fall apart and fail to describe what a band plays, and it’s nothing new at all. To be honest, music wouldn’t need classifications, but just the old ‘test of the ear’: hear it, and if you like it, buy it; if you don’t like it, leave it aside and do not talk about it. And honestly: do deal with “We Are Satan’s People”, the new album of the Swedish quartet TRANSPORT LEAGUE is a matter of hearing, and not trusting in classifications. Musically, they’re throwing a dirty and catching form of Boogie/Hard Rock into your ears without asking for permission. It’s like combining the filthy appeal of MOTÖRHEAD with the groove of BLACK SABBATH and the catching and nasty appeal of AC/DC.
To call them Sludge/Doom something or even Groove Metal isn’t fair (besides some elements of both ways are into the mix of their music), and their music is vicious, addictive, full of energy, aggressive and with excellent nasty hooks. It’s love at first listen. Henrik Danhage and Dan Johansson worked on the sound engineering, with Svein Jensen doing the mixing. The idea for the sonority seems to be defined and understandable (what veterans as they are would look for), but with rough instrumental tunes that would make clear their retro-Hard/Boogie/Groove Rock tendencies. Let’s resume things in this way: it’s perfect for the fans and for the music of the band.
“We Are Satan’s People” has many to offer to the fans (especially because the fans waited for three years for this album), and the set of songs offered is very good, indeed. And “Possessed” (a true way-down Hard/Groove experience, with AC/DC-driven guitar riffs and raw melodies), “Unkill Crash” (another blow of pure energy in the nose, based on a simple and oppressive work of bass guitar and drums), “Hollowed Victory”, “Primate Apeshit” (some touches of Industrial/Groove Metal of the 90s can be heard on this one), “Bodies Recede” (this one is nearer of Groove Metal acts as PANTERA due some broken tempos), “Cosmo Death” (wow, what lovely melodic hooks and fine harsh tunes of the vocals), “Grind You Down”, “Danger of Death”, “Wreck” (intense and abrasive, this one is based on oppressive tempos with some industrial touches on the guitars), “Vicious Claim” (a vicious song filled with an intense hooking energy) and “Dog Tags” is what the doctor said to make the heart work as it must.
“We Are Satan’s People” is a big ‘fuck you’ in the face of those who look for classifications, and TRANSPORT LEAGUE shows a fresh and relevant work.
