This is the second full length album from Ohio based rockers THE UNCLEAN, and it's got a lot of charm, a lot of soul to it. Think dingy dirty clubs, with beer soaked amps, and you'll get close to the kind of atmosphere this album creates. It'd make a great driving album.
For a self-released album it's got incredibly good production values, whilst still managing to keep that dirty Rock 'n' Roll feeling. It's got a ton of energy, and even though the latter half of the album consists of slightly slower songs (which are as equally as good as the rest of them), you only have to listen to the first track - "On We Go" - to get a sense of what this band is about. They take their music seriously, they love it, and it shows a hell of a lot. They've got a great edge to their music, a roughness which enhances the overall feel of "The Eagle". They're all about keeping it traditional but they still sound fresh. I honestly don't think that I could choose a favorite song, because all of them are brilliant. A lot of bands nowadays sound like their influences, which of course is no bad thing, because why not emulate your heroes? But THE UNCLEAN have got a sound all of their own.
They keep it simple with the music as well, having only the three band members. Bremmy's vocals are rough and ready, and perfectly suited to the instruments, and his guitar playing isn't too shabby either! Burns and Frank get quite a few chances to shine themselves on a lot of the songs, and they all come together to create their distinctive sound. It's a high quality album from start to finish, and the fact that they self-released it as well makes it all the more admirable that they managed to produce something this good. "The Eagle" may be slightly 'unclean', but it's definitely not in a bad way.
Overall, I've been very impressed by this album, and it's one that's definitely worth a repeated listening. If you're into Rock 'n' Roll that's purely Rock 'n' Roll, no thrills, then this is definitely one for you.
