In a moment with the entire world being dragged into fascists ideas, it’s the moment right for Hardcore acts to take a stand and scream against the system once more, as DISCHARGE, R.D.P., G.B.H., THE DEAD KENNEDYS, D.R.I. and others did in the past. But the genre is still alive, even far from the highlights of great media. And the ferocity of some releases of Crossover is what the fans expect now, ferocity heard on THE SLIME’s new release, their first full-length, “Crabwalk to Oblivion”.
The quartet unleashes a violent and nasty form of Hardcore/Crossover, spiting with fury and irony to every side. Fast and thunderous, their musical work is really excellent, with the nasty hooks of Hardcore, but with the weight of Crossover and some technical appeal (as heard on “Sludge”, a song that would cause intense moshpits). Energy to explode the VU meters, aggressiveness spitted in your face, very good songs with screamed vocals, nasty and hooking guitar riffs, thunderous bass guitar and drums playing… Well, what are you expecting to dive into it?
The production tries to align the filthy and organic appeal of past Hardcore/Crossover releases (when the genres weren’t swallowed by the system), but in a way that can be understood by anyone, it’s a very good work, indeed, being crude and ‘hardcorized’ to the very bones, but understandable. And what great artwork of Andrew Wright on the cover.
The spirit of USA Hardcore/Crossover can be felt in all the songs, so dive into “Washout Revenge” (after an intro becomes a fats and Hardcore-like song filled with intense and hooking screams of the vocals), “Sludge” (that has a more Thrashcore orientation due the weighty appeal, with excellent guitar riffs and charming technique), “Moving Targets”, “Russian Roulette” (a monolithic weight can be felt, fed by bass guitar and drums playing), “Orange” (a short and nasty song), “Crab-Walk”, “Velociraptor”, “Beyond Dead”, “Blood Island”, “Nude” and “Bumblebee”, because no one can resist to their appeal.
Again: in a moment filled with darkness of ignorance, “Crabwalk to Oblivion” comes to put things in the place and spare fascists from Hardcore and Metal fans. THE SLIME is here to do it, wanting it or not.
