The Lurking Fear - Out of the Voiceless Grave album cover

Even the bands composed by members with long musical experience on their shoulders can commit mistakes. It's a matter of vision, a matter of creative insight. I know that today, a great part of Metal fans worldwide are looking to the past as nothing new could be better than IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH, METALLICA and others in this way. This is a misconception, a gross mistake and lack of vision from many. These bands above were great due their idea to be different from their predecessors. And THE LURKING FEAR gives a taste of deception to many fans, because "Out of the Voiceless Grave" is just a loss of time.

The members of the band has names as AT THE GATES, GOD MACABRE and THE HAUNTED on their curriculums, and the album is just another recollection of Death Metal clichés? Yes, this is a just a common Death Metal album with that Old School feeling from the 90s. Ok, I understand there are many fans of this moldy form of music (besides the band's sound quality is not in this way), but the lack of creativeness is something disturbing. Besides all I said above, the sound quality is very good. Yes, the care that was taken on recording, mixing and mastering produces a raw sound in the way the band needs, but with an insight that the listener must understand what they are playing. So we can say that fits on what they wanted and on what people needs at the same time.

But musically speaking, "Out of the Voiceless Grave" is disappointing. There are moments when their musical experience shows that the things could be great as we hear on slow parts of "Vortex Spawn", some charming guitar parts of "The Infernal Dread" and "With Death Engraved in their Bones", the good rhythmic work shown on "The Cold Jaws of Death", the vocals on the aggressive "Winged Death", and the nasty and bitter slow parts of "Beneath Menacing Sands", but why in the blazes such clichés, such form of music that we all heard thousands of times before, and even in a better way? Sorry, but if you want something really good, other bands offer better music that with THE LURKING FEAR.
