The Howling Void - Runa album cover

Well, to review an EP or a Single is never a very simple work. Sometimes, is like to obtain water from a rock, due we must hear and hear it many times to know a lot from a band, especially when we do not know its career. And in the case of Atmospheric Doom Metal one man band THE HOWLING VOID, from United States, Ol' Big Daddy here has a very, very good feeling of it, for the band's new EP, "Runa", is very good.

As said above, the band focused its energies on creating an atmospheric Doom Metal music, elegant and full of great moments, with very long songs and good musical arrangements. Very good riffs, good keyboards participation in all songs, bass and drums are doing a fine work as well and tender and gentile vocals (when they appear in the middle of long instrumental parts). But it is a very good work, indeed!

A good sound quality level is presented, making all instruments clear and making our comprehension of what is played clear. The musical arrangements can be heard with no difficulties, so we can say that the quality is good. But good doesn't mean excellent, please.

Ryan made a very good work on these three songs, all with a level of quality above the norm.

"Irminsûl" is the longest song, with some good variations, and just few singed words, with grandiose keyboards parts and very good riffs (but if you pay attention, you'll hear a very good work on bass and drums as well). "Nine Nights" is a bit more aggressive due the evident work on guitars on the beginning (and on entire song, it is the more evident musical instrument), and so keyboards appear again in good moments, and tender voices do their part in the song. Closing the work, comes "The Wolf and the Eclipse", a song that stays in the middle of a more aggressive sound with atmospheric and introspective moments. And again, it shows a great work on drums.

It's not the best work in the world, but it's very good, indeed.
