The Evil - Seven Acts to Apocalypse album cover

It's common to have some confusion when people debate the differences and similarities between Doom Metal and Stoner Metal. To truth is that both Metal genres share some common elements and the same founding father, BLACK SABBATH (any doubts, hear to "Black Sabbath", "Paranoid" and "Master of Reality", so you'll understand the deeper meaning of these words). But don't get the wrong idea: both genres aren't the same thing. This is the reason that labeling the Brazilian quartet THE EVIL's music as Doom/Stoner Metal is a gross mistake that "Seven Acts to Apocalypse", the band's second album and latest release rips apart with fury. Their musical work can be compared to classic Doom Metal acts as WITCHFINDER GENERAL, St. Vitus, BLACK SABBATH on its prime, but with some differences: the band prefers to boost the funereal ambiences to the point that disturbs the fans, the crude aspects used on the instrumental arrangements (especially on the distortion guitar riffs), and the female vocals that fits in such putrid and oppressive form of music.

It can be unbearable for fans used to polish works into Doom Metal, but it's nearer the roots of the genre in a way that can be said courageous today. And it's simple, nasty and bitter as hell, so it's very good to deal with such album. The band's music can give a wrong idea on the sound quality: it's done in a way that makes things defined to the ears (or in other words, one can understand clearly what the band plays), and the rough and nasty atmosphere that permeates the album resides solely on the instrumental tunes used by the quartet. But be prepared, because it's heavy and Hell, indeed.

Using the concept of the seven deadly sins, the band weaves ideas about how evil won, because the whole picture of world is really drown on mankind's deepest mistakes (that could be evaded if some good virtues could breed in the middle of greed). So be prepared, because "Envy" (an oppressive and funereal song where the vocals can be disturbing sometimes), "Pride" (the bitter ambience created by the guitars is really frightens the non-used fans, but it's hard to resist to its darkened appeal), "Greed" (a deeper and despairing intro prepares the fans for lashes of oppressive melodies, and where drums and bass guitar are creating the right and simple rhythm support for the song), "Sloth" and "Lust" (both songs have dynamical arrangements and harmonies, even being so bitter), "Voracity" (the intro shows a combination of a graveyard-like ambience with disturbing introspection with before slow tempos and 'iommian' like guitars tear everything apart), and "Wrath" are songs that try the fans a lot.

THE EVIL is really a very surprising name, and if you liked their first album, "The Evil" (released back in 2017), for sure "Seven Acts to Apocalypse" will be a mandatory release.
