There are times when Metal genres evolve in strange ways to many. But we must pay attention and let the bands do their work. We can like it or not, but we can't seize their freedom to create. If we do such thing, we will be the ones to blame due to the musical sterility of Metal. So we can say that the North American trio THE CRAWLING is trying to do their music in their own way, as we can hear on "Anatomy of Loss", their first album. The trio is creating a bitter and raw form of Doom Death Metal, but with clear influences coming from Stoner Rock, with lardy and dirty instrumental tunes with an aggressive way of guttural (that is cleaner than we commonly hear on the style, being not as extreme as many bands). The difference comes from Stoner Metal influences and a total melancholic insight used. It's pretty heavy, bitter as Hell, but with a personality pulsing in their songs.

The band produced "Anatomy of Loss" by itself, and did a good work. The sound quality is good, being bitter and heavy as it must be, but always keeping it dry and clean for our ears in a way that their songs can be assimilated with no problems. It could be better, of course, but it is very good in the way it is. The band has a very personal and good insight in their work, shown on all the songs of "Anatomy of Loss". But we can name the bitter riffs and funereal atmosphere of "Poison Orange" with its slow tempos; the mix between introspective clean moments with harsh melancholy parts on "Acid on My Skin" (where we can hear a fine work from vocals and its grunts), the oppressive melodies and very good work on bass guitar and drums on "The Right to Crawl", and the slow and bitter aggressiveness on "Violence Vanity and Neglect" can be pointed as special proofs of their potential. They are a promising name, so let's hope that they'll have a great future.
