Instrumental albums, sometimes, are just boring and can give us all a good sleep if some of us are suffering from insomnia. But in few cases, they really are charming and catch our attention, as in the case of the US duo TEMPEL. Their first album, "On The Steps Of The Temple", is a good work, no doubt.

Besides they are called "post-blah-blah-blah" things (the labels really piss your Ol' Big Daddy here off!), it's a more aggressive and modern music, with some aspects of Black Metal and Doom here and there, with an experimental approach, all instrumental, but with less of some bands, they're really good, and their music goes in the same way.

Ryan Wenzel made all the sound engineering for the album, but nothing in their instrumental minimalism is lost. Of course, works in instrumental form deserves a recording better than we have here, but it's not a loss, please.

Their songs are long, lasting more than 8 minutes (unless "Final Years", the shortest, with 4 minutes), but it's not tedious. They're fine, with the best songs being "Mountain", the more introspective "Rising from the Abyss", and "Avaritia".

A fine work, indeed, but personally, I think that a good vocalist could put their music in another level.
