Fury Nocturnus
T.O.M.B.
Ok, if the intention was to create nightmares for the fans that are not used to Black Metal in its darkest ways, the album really accomplished what it was planned for. But if it was to be a show of good music, sorry, but "Fury Nocturnus", the new album from T.O.M.B. is really a great deception.
There are some good moments on the album, when they try to be a straighter band, playing a raw and brutal form of Black Metal that reminds something that GORGOROTH made in some moment of their career in Ghaal's times. But for the greater part of the album they try to sound as a strange and ritualistic Industrial Black Metal band. This made their songs sounds as a great amount of a non-sense mass. No, it's nothing in an avant-garde way; it just doesn't make any sense!
The sound quality does not help either, and I can't understand the reason for such a dirty sound, even being not so hard to understand what they are playing. The instrumental tunes are far away from something that you can understand, being so dirty and dusty...
Even with guests as Hellhammer from MAYHEM, John Litchko from GOREAPHOBIA/NECROTION, they couldn't save the final result that "Fury Nocturnus" has.
The songs are great martyrdoms for our ears and minds, and some good moments can be heard on "Darkness" (where some nasty and truly Black Metal moments appears), "Glorious Triumphant", "Belial" (it could be a better song if the focus were on guitars, bass and drums, and not in this dense atmosphere that damages the song), the harsh guitars on "Ignite the Torch Again" (if you can hear, you'll feel that a good work was done, but this cursed Industrial insight is really destroying all the good efforts) and on "Oblivion Dawn" (the words from the previous song goes for this one), and "Fury Nocturnus" (why in the blazes made these guys use such terrible sound quality?). But it took a lot of my personal patience to hear this album.
Do you really want to hear something as a reference for Industrial Black Metal? Listen to DIABOLOS RISING's "Satanic Propaganda", and you'll understand how this album is far from anything that has some value as a musical work.
