I really love the old days, those forms of music that were created on the 80s. I love bands as GRIFFIN, RUTHLESS, HELSTAR, TRAUMA, THE RODS, MALICE and many others that built what we know as U.S. Metal. That's the main reason that I can't accept new bands trying to be like them. This idea of "giving sequence" to their works disgusts me, because the argument is a fallacy: the only thing that guys that say such a thing want is to play music without being creative. It's easy to be a clone that to be yourself. North American quintet SYMETRIA commits this sin on their first album, "Symetria".

They play a form of traditional Heavy Metal that mixes influences from NWOBHM with U.S. elements. But their greatest sin is to try to be as those names I wrote above. Sorry, but they left their marks with their albums, so there is no need to remake what is already done. To my ears, it's a kind of joke, and I'm not laughing. I heard these same elements before many times, so it's far away from being new or personal. Another sin is the sound quality of "Symetria": it's desperately trying to emulate the old forms of the 80s. The songs sound clear and dry, like searching for something organic, but the sound becomes hollow in many parts, lacking weight. I truly recommend them to use analogue recording systems on next time, but with a better producer to find a heavier sound.

To be an Old School band is to be from the 70s, 80s or 90s. To play on an Old School trend, the right way is to have personality, what SYMETRIA seems have in some moments, but the whole outfit of the album sounds like they're forcing the band to be in this way. We can hear a good sign of musical talent on songs as "Wakening", "Flying High", on the bitter slow tempos of "Venial Sin", "Time" (a song inspired by IRON MAIDEN in its earlier ages), and on "Symetria". Work it out, guys! The band has potential, but must urgently leave this "80s wannabe" outfit aside.
