Division of Blood
Suicidal Angels
And the Thrash Metal Division from Greece is back to the front! Yes, "Division of Blood" is the newest album from SUICIDAL ANGELS is finally released, so be prepared for some breakneck songs and moshpit euphoria! But what we can expect from "Division of Blood"? Let me be honest: the quartet is in a constant evolution process since they released "Sanctify the Darkness". Of course they gathered a great experience, and now, it seems to come to a high peak of quality, because the album is the best they had done on their entire career.
Mixing their Thrash Metal essence they show since their earlier works with the modern day technology of recording an album, more the knowledge from their last four releases (especially "Divide and Conquer", where some modern aspects entered their musical personality), they became a Thrash Metal band with an Old School approach, but with a modern way of playing and creating songs. Nick vocals became better, using a more aggressive form with a normal tune, and he and the newcomer Gus are unleashing excellent guitar riffs and great solos (with some melodic aesthetics on them), and the rhythmic kitchen of Aggelos (bass guitar) and Orpheas (drums) is on excellent shape as well, keeping the rhythm, but with a very good technique. So we can say that they are on their best form as well.
The album was produced by Jörg Uken (that already worked with DEW-SCENTED, GOD DETHRONED, SINISTER, and did the mixing and mastering of "Bloodbath"), so we have that raw sound they need to be more aggressive, giving their musical work the needed punch. But it's clear, and we can understand their musical arrangements perfectly. And the artwork of the cover is another fine piece done by Ed Repka, known for his works with MEGADETH and DEATH, and it is really great, showing what the band states with their songs. On "Division of Blood", the quartet reached a level that they can try to be as great as any band on the North American Big4 or on German Trio.
Their 9 songs are all excellent, but the attack of fast tempos and guitars shown on "Capital of War" (with very good work of bass guitar and drums, creating very good rhythmic changes), the perfect storm of killer riffs and solos that "Division of Blood" presents (the tempos are so fast, but the aggressiveness of the song is really great), the short and technical "Image of the Serpent" (with fast tempos and very good of the vocals), the high dose of pure adrenaline given on "Set the Cities on Fire", the bitter slow song called "Frontgate" (with a hypnotic set of guitar riffs and great drumming), and the brutal grasp on the slow tempos of "Of Thy Shall Bring the Light" (another fine masterpiece, where all the band is an excellent shape) are their finest moments. But don't take away the other songs, because they are excellent as well. SUICIDAL ANGELS is really amazing, and hope they can become greater with "Division of Blood". Hear it and get hooked!
